Naismith v Chelski

If I'm honest, he showed enough class with his finish to suggest to me that with more games in his actual position that he might be a decent player for us. He slipped a lot and played a few gash balls, but it was his first proper game for us in his favoured role, and to do it away at Chelsea was a big ask. Did everything I expected of him and more.

I BELIEVE IN YOU LAD.

same as yakubu. tbh, if a striker does feck all but scores a winner with their only touch all the time then that's good enough for me. They're paid to score, i think naismith would do that similarly to dempsey who i don't really rate but he does seem to score when given a chance.

he's a squad player who we got on a free, i wasn't expecting miracles, but he does seem to get in that goalscorning position - something you need off the bench when your struggling to score against a norwich type team

How many winners has he scored?

'Fair point. There is so much negativity around him, lets hope he has a productive pre season and can offer something from the bench next season.'

Don't know how to quote, but this is the bit that gets me. Why does every player have to start or be sold? They don't... Oh, and he was the last player to score a hat-trick for us.

Friendlies do not count, obviously.

He does seem to fall over a lot doesn't he?. Jelavic has got a similar problem. It is as if their brain is disconnected from their lower limbs. Maybe they should play in old fashioned splints ....

Let me choose my words carefully here.

I think Naismith would do better up front (I believe that's where he played at Rangers) and much better than he would in midfield. I look at him like I looked at Bilyaletdinov. Decent player, wrong position.

Now, that said, I'm not comparing Naismith to Billy in quality. I think Billy shades it. I'm just comparing the players in terms of not playing where they normally do.

Oh, knew I couldnt trust the Daily Fail... impact sub as a striker maybe? Because compared to the other two, he has a little pace, and seems to be a natural poacher at least. Damn it, I just want him to be class FFS! Oh and he has that work-rate lol

Mate, he's gash. Out of his depth in the premier league I'm afraid. Apart from his goal against Chelsea, he was awful. Looked like an -15 squad player being given a rattle with the full squad. Terrible.

He's had his chance. We've been moderately patient. Time for him to quietly slip away in the summer I reckon.

If Naismith is going to be kept on after the summer then it has to be as a forward. He's still crap there, but the fact he can finish means there's at least some sense behind him playing.

Agree with most of the stuff in this thread- clearly he is a forward and not a wide man, took his goal really well but ultimately doesn't possess the quality required at this level. Not his fault and I have nothing against the guy- just don't rate him as a footballer.

Played much the same position as Torres aka out wide right-ish but came in the centre at odd times

Overall the result was the same scored 1 goal each

Cost a shedload less

Put in a better shift over the 90 minie

Torres sulked for 70% of the game

Sad fact is he is still one step over short of being a top 3 player, but then again ( for many different reasons ) so is Peinaar, Howard and many others.

Not as bad as he is painted, but the price was right

Apart from the goal, he didn't play well. He just isn't up to it sadly. Barkley should have played in his place

I like Naismith, as he always works hard, but he isn't good enough for the Prem. I think we need to try and shift him to a Championship or SPL team for around 1-2 Million

That's the calibre of player you get when you buy from the SPL unfortunately.
