Other than that, ESPN (USMNT/World Cup), NBC (USMNT), FOX (EPL) all have vested interests. Huh. This is fascinating and would be a business case in itself.

One note: Del Piero would be coming in the summer. Timing doesn't quite align unless he's making non-DP dollars.

@LillyAnnFraizer .. No he'll come back on loan and then most likely stay for a nominal fee and sign a 2 yr deal to expire 2015.
Interestingly enough, that's perfect from a national team perspective - carries him through the World Cup, and the potential 2015 Copa America that includes the US, or the important Gold Cup of 2015 that sends the winner to the Confederations Cup. So he's essentially extending him time through the important national team years (and most likely, his final national team years).
After that he can come back to MLS for 3 more years, then retire (sniff!).

I've been hating them both for years. It must be working!
Just read an article on Fox Soccer about LD wanting to come back, but I cant post it (not enough posts). He's playing coy, but it's obvious he wants out.
Americans can still buy our shirts and other merchandise online.
One area I can see it helping is the pre-season tours to America. With Dempsey, Howard and Donovan in our team we could command MUCH larger fees to play there.
I'm talking millions more for a 4/5 match tour, and given our turnover is around £80m this isn't to be sniffed at.
Can we not just sign him now please ?

I know but the buying it online aint good enough for me.
I agree in principle that its a good opportunity but I still think that foreign fans still go for the glory clubs and always will in general and the main stumbling block for me, I dont trust our board to do anything of use when it comes to marketing.
