My thoughts on the possible signing of Landon Donovan.

His contract 100% runs until the end of the 2013 MLS season, which would be in the winter time.

Won't matter. He signs on loan and wants to stay, MLS will let him go. And his commentary of late is starting to make me think that that's the plan. Add THT's tweet onto that? Plus thebluefox's comment about Nike?

We have a RM starting in January!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(trying not the let the flames of hope spring big time)

I really don't see why MLS would just 'let him go' before the start of the season.

Regardless, his contract still doesn't end in the summer !

In related news I was up early Yesterday and bored, so I put on ESPN and watched Chivas vs Galaxy.

Didnt watch it all, but Donovan was gash, Beckham was stroking some mean balls around.

Chivas were winning 1-0 with 3mins left when I stopped watching.

So.............

HES GASH MOIST, DONT SIGN HIM.

They also had Alexis Lalas on some kind of sniper nest on the roof doing some commentary, plus Angel still plays FFS.

He's probably dreaming about his next loan stint.

If they want any money out of a Donovan transfer, they will. Otherwise, he walks away for free at the end of the season.

How much money would they honestly expect ?

His contract runs out in December 2013, and his loan deal would end in March. I don't see how a few million would be more worthwhile than having him for the next season, he's one of their top players and it's not like Galaxy are skint.

Well I would've related McBride with Columbus since was the first overall player signed in MLS. (for Columbus Crew) but that's me and that's my favorite player.

You are exactly right Skeleton Crew. My bad.
As I was typing "Chicago" it didn't seem right, but Columbus just didn't come to mind in time. My overall point though still stands that of all his teams, we are an afterthought.

Wolfsburg, Columbus, PNE, Everton, Fulham, Chicago, and USAMNT (thanks wikipedia for the list)

His 8 games for Everton don't even enter a discussion about his career (although 4 goals in 8 games is a solid showing!).

He's their best player isn't he?

Arguably yeah. I just can't see them letting their best player go a season early so that they get a few million in the bank.

The Galaxy are having a TERRIBLE season this year though, so unless things turn and turn quick, a dismantling/exodus of sorts may be coming. And with Donovan being the most likely of their 3 to leave, if the Galaxy stand in his way, that would not bode well.

It wouldn't be about getting a few million in the bank, it would be about starting a rebuild with a new designated player - and they will have to be free of landon to make that happen.

I think we will let his contract run down a bit, next year for me. Im begining not to mind his age that much either seriously impressed with his play making ability this time around.
