Moyes vs Martinez: Pounds vs Points

Diame is boss and I've just remember he has a release clause of about
£3.5m and Martinez will deffo be up
for getting him back. This excites me.
Senegalese Lee Carsley.

Quite a lot wrong with this. I'll just say that Diame had been dropped from the Wigan team for a while before he left and Martinez is unlikely to be interested.

Martinez is a big downgrade on Moyes, anyone suggesting otherwise is deluding themselves tbh.

I would have agreed entirely three months back but he won the fa cup with wigan.

Regardless of whatever else he does in his career, that's a stunning achievement and one worthy of respect.

I mean teams like Wigan simply don't win FA cups, it just doesn't happen.

True, although his record in cups prior to this is absolute garbage, so he doesnt have a magic formula. I like him but his flaws concern me a lot.

and that's what football is (or should be) about - magic

No one mentions the year we came 17th under DM - its only this season our football improved then fell away into bad tactical draws & losses v lesser teams! Also Martinez won a trophy, had bad luck with defenders injured! also look at the players he has had to sell on - Martinez lost Antonio Valencia, Mohamed Diamé, Hugo Rodallega, Victor Moses and Charles N'Zogbia.

Agreed, its something quite incredible.

I've posted this before, defending Moyes FA cup record, feel it should be shown again to praise Martinez's:
Porstmouh and Wigan outside the 5 big spending clubs.

Having said that I would still rather be in the premiership fighting for Europe than have that game and relegation. Imagine our board in the championship... We'd never be seen again.

Moyes>Martinez because every year he keeps us up with the big boys without having any spend. Martinez had one good streak amidst a season of s**t and won a cup. He also got relegated. Our season was far superior.

Yes but he is coming to a well organised defence & a bigger club FFS!

Indeed he is... Because of Moyes he's coming to a great squad ready for him to work to his strengths.
He will in fact be coming from a squad he relegated to a vastly superior one Moyes has left him because Moyes>Martinez.

Moyes' achievement is leaving us a very strong squad, I agree.

If Martinez can win something with it, it would be thanks to both of them. Hopefully it's that great tag team moment you mentioned earlier. Where we've swapped a builder for a winner.

Nice one mate, not particularly interesting in the end but worth looking at.

Whilst his overall performance has been slightly better than expected, I find it surprising that Martinez hasn't had a one-off season where they were well above expectations. With his style of play I can imagine them getting off to a good start and cruising to comfortable mid table, regardless of the little money spent, but it hasn't happened.

I also can't really see the board backing him in his first transfer window, so I suspect we'll be looking for a few bargains to bolster the squad and consolidate our current position.

I've not checked, and may be wrong, but Is it true that quite often Martinez at Wigan would spend a good part of a season in the 'middle of the bottom half' of the table, then slip seriously into the dogfight, pick up and escape/(not this season of course).
