Moyes: "maybe the supporters don't know and expect more"

My biggest regret of the Moyes era will be that he, ironically, his rebuilding of the team has deflected criticism and has kept the utterly abysmal Kenwright at the helm of our club, and while we may be in a better position than when he joined, off the field we have fallen so far behind, and no one has seen fit to push Kenwright out because he & Moyes.

It was a good result on Saturday, which makes our form of the last 3 months all the more frustating. We know that we have good players who can beat anyone, but many of the performances this season have been abysmal. Anyone remember the first 45mins at Southampton?

That's the essential problem with the capitalist system, people at the top (Moyes, kenwright) being over rewarded irrespective of continued failure to deliver

Direct quote about his early success with us and all the fawning over him from fans in the early days:

"When you think of the people that have actually played on the pitch, I've not played on the pitch here for Everton, and the managers who've won Championships....I don't know if it's a good thing or it's a bad thing because maybe they've been starved of so much success, any form of success is greeted with unbelievable adulation. But, whatever the reason, you know I'm really grateful and really thankful for it and I'll never take any of it for granted."

So, taking the general discontent now for granted is a whole different kettle of fish is it...it works both ways, David. That quote's about 8-9 years old and you've still won nothing, so I think it's quite justified you're being questioned.

I seem to becoming in the minority but I don't feel like moyes takes us for granted. I feel some take top 6/7/8 place finishes for granted. I think some feel a new manager means we will win a cup, do better? Ect ect...

The truth is moyes has assembled a very good group of players, whilst also loosing very good players along the way. But there not world class players and there's not a squad of them more a first 11/12. People are talking about us being out of form/dismal for 3 months?? Really?? Players that are playing to there max having a dip yeah sure but is that not expected or allowed?? Would a new manger really stop a jelavic drought?? I don't think so...

Is it moyes fault we lost to a very good Chelsea side in the FA cup final? I don't think so tbh. Yet that is used as a stick to beat him with regulary. Arsenal have not won anything for nearly as long as moyes rain with at times very very good players in there squad.

I imagine moyes doesn't feel like he gets the respect he deserves. We seem to expect too much from our players IMO. There to play at full wack all season, never be off form, always make the right subs, never lose to a team we believe below us yet still beat all the teams who are better than us. It's unrealistic....

Moyes has weaknesses, but apart from fergie tell me a manager that doesn't. After the 90's if I'd been offered what moyes has done for us I would of snapped the hands off at that. Especially with what he has been up against.
Do I want to move on another level? Of course I do... But we need some cash to do that moyes & cash would = success IMO. Moyes with no cash = what we have now...which is not too bad considering.

This notion of waiting to see where we finish is an odd one. Effectively, although he apparently doesn't see it this way, he's saying that he'll wait to see how well he does his job before he decides whether or not to carry on with his job.

The only way final league position will have any real bearing on what he can do in the summer is if we somehow finish 4th, which is both pretty unlikely and still will require us to play a CL qualifier which we'll inevitably [Poor language removed] up. The Europa League won't make much difference financially.

The irony is that the 'big job' he so craves would only be offered to him if he got 4th place (and even then maybe not). If we end up 6th/7th and without Europe where exactly does he think he'll go? Does he think the likes of Schalke have a hard-on for a dour, mid-table manager who has never won a trophy and doesn't speak German?

I think his myth of greatness extends mere geographical boundaries. If life on the moon was found and they started a side he'd be the man they'd want. Rumours NASA beam pictures of him to Jupiter to engage any new lifeforms that may be there.

I can believe that:

When Moyes goes and he will eventually I wonder how long it will be before the team starts to fall backwards under the current owners. Not arsed about Moyes anymore but will fans who called for Moyes to go, be big and brave enough to admit they got it wrong if the team goes backwards under this owenership?

Most know I want to see these owners go and I am not alone in that anymore now but I don,t really want to see the club fall backwards just to show we can expose the owners - they should,nt have to wait for things to blow up becuase they won,t leave.

I don't buy that these players really love Moyes and would only play for him. I reckon as much as some will like him and his style it will also frustrate and annoy others. For at least a season a year for the past five or six seasons there's been a prolonged period in each one where nobodys looked arsed.

Who's to say the next guy in couldn't get more out of these players with a better style, different coaching and a fresh approach?

I think a full season of playing to 70-80% of our max could be better than one where we play to 10% one week and a 100% the next.

Of course they won't, they'll just shift their focus to the boardroom when it goes pear post Moyes.

Any new manager that comes in will have his own ideas about the style of play and players and that includes moving players on so we might as well take the door off FF and put a turnstyle on instead - it won,t be the same team.

So back to my orginal point - I wonder how long it will be before the team starts to fall backwards under the current owners. Not arsed about Moyes anymore but will fans who called for Moyes to go, be big and brave enough to admit they got it wrong if the team goes backwards under this owenership?

If we sell fellaini for 80million and then spend all that money on henderson and ameobi, the mistake wouldn't be selling fellaini.

If we replace Moyes with Martinez, losing moyes wouldn't be the issue.

It should do but everton fans do have a history of shrugging shoulders and looking the other way untill we are on the verge of the trap door or have fallen through it.

Bill knows this, plays on it, so when the Wigan defeat happened it was a trap door moment but you see we won the following week and fans have shrugged shoulders again on the bigger issues.

The majority of those calling for Moyes head now, are anti board anyway, so it's a moot point.

Yeah, cos every manager will want rid of 20 players and to sign 50 no one likes a good player someone else has bought. Order that turnstile now.

Back to your original point. There's no guarantee it will fall anywhere. The next TV deal gives them a better chance of masking their inadequacies than ever before. One good appointment is all it will take to keep the plates spinning.
