Moshiri On Lukaku Contract Refusal

As silly as this may sound I wonder if kane's injury has prompted a re think on the agent side of things? Lukaku has a real chance of finishing top scorer this season is kanes is out for any length of time so come the season end he would have higher stock than he does now as best striker in the league. All political moves on their part but I have no doubt he will sign a new contract with us because why wouldn't he get a bit of extra money before he goes? It is down to release clauses only, the board know this hence the confident responses.

A buy out clause of 70 million is about right, it's quite likely that a bidding war would push the price up anyway. I'm confident an agreement will be reached eventually.

A bidding war? If his release clause is 70mill and 10 teams were bidding for him they wouldn't have to offer any more then 70nil because it would have to be accepted. So it doesn't matter how many teams are bidding just matters of they bid 70

I wouod like to think of it as a attention in the detials scenario rather than a worry as such. Plenty of standard responses moshiri could have offered but a he is our player, we will sort this contract out is actually pretty confident. As I mentioned , despite how short it was it was pretty much pointing out that we aren't arsed and we will sort it out, quite professional in my mind at least if not anyone else's.

It is natural for a fan Base, especially one line our own to think the worst of any scenario and over react slightly. Reading the match thread of the Spurs game you would think that we lost that game on the penultimate game of the season in 18th place.

You say it's quite professional, but it's a text to a presenter on Sky Sports News and Talksport.

WHO SHOUTS REALLY LOUD

Am I alone in thinking he isnt quite ready for one of the top clubs yet. Yes he is a world class finisher and unplayable when given space to run in behind. However his hold up play and all round game, whilst improving, is still a work in progress. That will be important at the elite clubs where more teams will park the bus. He will also have more competition and I dont think that he actually get the amount of game time that he's after.

Rom comes across as a bright lad, moreso than your average footballer, and I always thought he understood this, which is why I believed we'd get another season or 2 out of him.

Ability wise I'd compare him to the Suarez who joined the RS rather than the one who left to join Barca.

Realistically, where could he end up when he inevitably goes? It will surely be to a CL club in one of these countries: England, Spain, Italy or Germany. PSG in France is the only other one but he will know that the league is poor. I had earlier thought the only options for him were Barca, Bayern, Real Madrid or PSG. Do any of those teams have £65-70m to spend?

Italy: Juventus, Roma, Napoli, Lazio and possibly AC Milan?

Spain: Could Sevilla or Atletico Madrid afford him? If Atletico sold Griezmann, then they could get Lukaku, but would they see him as a worthy replacement?

Germany: Dortmund

In England, Chelsea seems a likely destination but I would be disappointed to see us sell to a potential 'rival' in the next 5-10 years. Talk of Man United is laughable if they don't get CL football which I don't think they will.

Of all the clubs you have listed in Italy, Spain and Germany - only Juventus have in the past dozen years came close to paying the type of fee we'd let Lukaku leave for, none of the others have come within half of that type of price (assuming 60-65m)

Indeed during that time period we probably have 3 or 4 of the highest fees paid for players out of all those clubs

and the one who has paid that fee - Juventus - have only did so last season and did so for a striker in Higuain - don't see them buying a second one - especially to sit on the bench

Out the other clubs you briefly mentioned.

Bayerns record fee paid is about 32m, Barca don't need him and he is entirely unsuited to their style of play, Real Madrid - Is he a big enough name for them to bring in? PSG - jarg club, jarg league - but who knows - the players ambition may be to play in a joke league but will get to play CL.

In England - Chelsea - record fee is still 50m they've paid - so will have to smash that record (the money they've got from sales to the Chinese league makes it possible ofc) but does he suit their managers system either? United - who knows really they seem to be trying to recreate the Madrid Galactico policy without wondering about the fact it failed badly for Madrid.

His best attributes and as you said ability to run into space etc, will see him at a 'big club' face a lot less games where thats afforded and much more parked buses - but to counter that - better players around him etc.

These things change from year to year but right now I don't see Chelsea as a priority - they are going so well with Costa. United might be worried post Ibra and City are fretting over Aguero. Arsenal look deficient up front.. preferring to occasionally start Giroud. Tottenham have Kane right now. The coaches would decide if he fits their style. Something about one the two Milan teams feels right - the top European teams have their main strikers already. I suppose Real Madrid are always looking to find an upgrade..

Our heads do tend to fall off.

Dont get me wrong. Hsving been built up to expect the opposite I was desperately disappointed when the news broke. But we fans expect/hope that the players love the club as much as we do.

...I wonder if there's a lesson learned from the John Stones situation. We kept him for a season after he made it clear he wanted to leave and his form dipped. In the end we got £50m for him. Keeping him that extra season was applauded at the time but it didn't really work out from a playing perspective.

I don't get all the Judas and snake references (besides the ones from Prevenger17; he's just funny).

Is he forcing his way out of the club? is he not showing up on practice? Is he trying to find loopholes in his contract or a law to get out under his contract? Is he fighting with Koeman, Moshiri or Kenwright?

No, he just didn't sign a new contract. Where is the betrayal in that?

Ffs. Some people on here even want to put him on the bench for the rest of the season.

Lukaku's doing an extra season here as well, you could say. Seems to work out just fine.

Agree with those of you that say £70M isn't enough for a buy out clause. The way transfer fees are going and Roms all round play (not just his goalscoring) is improving it should IMO be £100M.

I'd keep him another season at least despite the John Stones type risk- his value will if anything go up in that time
