Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

How nice is this.

I was up bright and early with the dog, as always, not another soul around, pitch black and a heavy frost.

As I walked up to a bench, there was an opened Christmas card laying on it.

I picked it up, to see if there was an address on it, thinking someone had mislaid it.

There was a message on the front, which said " please open me " , that`s all it said.

So I opened it and inside was a £20 note, with a message inside, that said " To whoever finds this card, I hope you have a very happy Christmas and please accept this money as a gift and enjoy it " ( no name or signature )

I`m a bit conflicted now, as to whether to keep it or give it to charity, as I don`t need the money and it kind of doesn`t feel right keeping it ?

Try telling yourself that when you get to my age.🤣
I hate that phrase “Age is just a number” ,often used in running sites by younger people trying to inspire you somehow, not knowing that age comes with aches and pains and all kind of issues to overcome . Sigh,I know. Send me that “ Grumpy old Everton fan” sign, I can obviously make use of it 🙂

I hate the phrase “a woman of your age …‘ usually used by a health care professional still wet behind the ears. It drives me mad, I feel written off.

Your soul will guide you to do the right thing.

About 3 years ago we were in Greece and found €200 neatly folded by a cash machine on Kefalonia.

We sat there for 2 hours waiting to see if anyone came back for it , then had to leave to go back to our resort ( 3 hours away). We deliberated on whether to leave it in a local shop - would it get to it's rightful owner or would they just spend it ?

Who knows so , rightly or wrongly we gave it to a local animal charity.

Some good came of it. Was it right or wrong? Who knows but my conscience is clear

I'm sure you'll do the right thing

I`ve already decided what I`m going to do with it.

I`m taking the kids to the panto at the St Helens Theatre Royal on Sunday, they collect loose change etc at the end of every performance, for the restoration of the interior ( which is shabby ). I`m going to donate it to them.

Looking at the handwriting, it looked like someone elderly, what a lovely thing to do.

That’s a perfect way to use such a beautiful gift. You are putting it to a greater good and others will benefit from it.

On a personal point, you are a great community member on GOT and it’s lovely to see you pop into this thread. So many good people on this site.

Hope everybody had a great Christmas.
I walked off yesterdays excesses this afternoon around Carr Mill Dam (the largest body of fresh water in Merseyside no less) It was a beautiful afternoon with clear crisp air.
(I did stop at a few benches, just to see if anybody had left a Christmas card, but alas no 🤷‍♂️)
Enjoy your night at the Theatre @COYBL25 (I've been known to tread those boards myself, though I believe there is no plaque erected to commerate the occasion.)

What a place that is to blow away the Christmas cobwebs Kev.

Bit of a thespian were you Kev?

You should reply ‘ Oh , what age do you think I am then ?” , with a tight smile on your face and a glower in your eyes. That is inspired by a lovely conversation I had with an elderly couple at my wife’s choir’s Christmas concert. We were discussing the best way to ask someone their age , and I said “Always go low . Start with something like “ Well my friend is 70 and you look younger than her “” . They smiled , we chatted and the lovely lady said the inevitable ‘ So how old am I then ?” . Turned out she was about to have her 93rd birthday and he was 94. Makes me smile just writing about it 🙂
