Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Hi I'm @messymascot aka Karl. I was diagnosed with a cancer called mesothelioma in 2019 after nearly 10 years of illness. Unfortunately this is an incurable type of cancer which is caused by asbestos exposure. I'm now entering the final stages as the cancer has grown and is starting to cause complications. Anyone who regularly visits the mental illness and depression thread is probably aware of parts of this story.

Anyways onto the thread title. Several members who visit the above thread, which I can't endorse highly enough both the thread and the regular visitors, wanted to get together and get me a ticket for the match. This was very much appreciated by me but initially I wasn't sure due to my health. However in the meantime @Earwigjoe contacted the club. They then kindly offered to supply 2 complimentary tickets. The 2 tickets were confirmed with myself today and one of my fellow West Cumbrian blues has agreed to travel with me and utilise the other. I will try to remember to take some photos and post them in here but I'm not the best at that sort of thing.

I want to use this thread to highlight what a truly great club we support as it would have been easy for them just to let the lads and lasses pay for the tickets. But I especially want to thank all the people who regularly post in the mental illness thread as they are truly magnificent. I first starting using the thread 3 or 4 years ago when I was going through a tough patch but since then I have been in the thread on a regular basis and there is always someone in there who wants to support another blue who has fallen on hard times. The clubs gesture and the fans in that thread and this forum are what make me proud to be an Evertonian. I love you all even the ones I don't always agree with. COYB The best team we could ever support. I'm glad I was chosen even though being 40 I don't remember the glory days of the 80s.

Sorry if that went on a bit but I needed to get it off my chest.

I’m absolutely thrilled to bits for you mate.
That’s one of the nicest things I’ve heard all year.

I know you corresponded with quite a few people in the Mental illness thread and they’ve been instrumental in getting this off the ground.

But the real stars of the show have been @Earwigjoe

And of course your good self, with your relentlessly positive attitude and strength, despite all that you’ve been going through.

Take a massive bow sir x

You are one of the top people in that thread so you should also be proud of yourself but @Earwigjoe deserves any plaudits that comes his way.

Karl, I'm glad to hear that you will be able to make it to the game along with your friend. I have been wondering in recent days if you were going to be up for it. While I wish the circumstances were different regarding your health I have to tell you that you have been so graceful with everything that has come your way that I admire your character and your attitude towards your condition. You really are a great warrior and one that deserves to have a great time at the match so let's hope Everton has a win and let's hope that Benitez give you the pleasure of seeing James playing in front of a crowd. As you know already, I'm here for you. Much love ?

Thank you Sassy. Do you have a real name don't worry I won't be offended if you don't want to reveal.

You are one of the supportive members in that thread you should also be proud of yourself. In a way I wish we didn't have that thread and no one needed it, but what that thread shows is there is still compassion in this world where it could so easily be lost. I wish I could remember everyone's name who has supported me and the others who have needed it and I would give a shout out to every single one of them.

This last 18 months has been hard for everyone but as long as we have each other we have a chance.

I do have a real name and I don't mind sharing it. I'm Liliana so feel free to address me by my name or by Sassy I'm happy with either. What would you prefer? I know some people rather to be addressed by their username instead of their own.

I am glad I have been able to be here to support you and I wish there was something else that I could do but at least you know that I'm here to chat for whenever you need to and I can also be a good shoulder to cry if you ever have one of those days you need to feel pity for yourself and feel you need some strength from someone else. While I also wish the depression thread wasn't necessary I am glad GOT has a place for people to find support when life is not going as well as we all wish. I love this community of people and the support we all provide so now the kudos go to Dan, GOT and Groucho for making sure this sort of support is available at the forum.

I think we should stick to Sassy and Messy or Mascot for me I'm not fussed which. Lillian is a nice name but we should stick to our forum selves. I put my name on as a way of humanising myself.

Yeah I totally agree about @Groucho for setting it up and Dan for allowing it to be so prominent.

I will be on here as much as I can and will let people know how I feel and how they can help but just knowing there are so many friendly people here is heart warming in itself.

Sounds like a plan, I have gotten used to call you Messy and I do like being called Sassy too. Even if we don’t use it to address each other, Im glad to know your name and to getting to know you.

I will be here to receive any updates and to be here as a friend. You and your positive attitude always warm my heart. X
