I completely understand where you are coming from AT. I grew up in a staunchly Catholic environment but and was given the same message. What concerns me most about this legislation is that it is so anti women. Men appear to be absolved of any responsibility. I've read that in some states, and
@Sassy Colombian might be able to confirm, that if a women has a miscarriage, she could be sent to prison and terminating an ectopic pregnancy could also result in criminal proceedings. That is just so wrong.
Also the blatant hypocrisy of some of the politicians astounds me. Take the utterly vile Jacob Rees-Mogg. He's Catholic. Staunchly anti abortion and I respect that, it goes with his faith. However the same man voted against free school meals during lockdown and appears to be happy to let migrant children drown in the English Channel. If you are pro-life then that doesn't end when the child is born. You have to support the child if the parents cannot or are unable to. All children. It is also not in line with Catholic teachings or what Jesus said. My favourite passage in the bible (possibly Matthew's gospel) is when Jesus said about the sheep and the goats - when I was hungry, you gave me food, when I was naked you clothed me. That, and George Orwell's Animal Farm have probably shaped my whole philosophy on how I try to live my life.
