Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Jeez I've just written a massive post and inadvertently deleted it. FFS! Short version. Very hot, now cloudy. Daughter may have a new job as a prison officer in a Young Offenders prison. She's over the moon, her Dad and I are not too sure. Son on his way home for the weekend. Thinking about a barbie and an afternoon in the local pub's beer garden over the weekend.
What makes you and Mr. F hesitant about it?

Have a great weekend with your son and enjoy your barbie! Xx

I've just had a letter telling me to make an appointment for one. Being a good girl I have made said appointment. My Mum and auntie both had breast cancer so anything proactive is good.
Nobody in my family has gotten breast cancer, thankfully. But my breast are very dense so they always like to do both the mammogram and the ultrasound just to be cautious. Hopefully my new insurance covers them both ??

They frighten the life out of me, I’m always convinced they will crash.
Yeah I know what you mean, they only have a scaled down fly past (5 planes today, i think a normal one is 9/10) I am always a bit weird with any airplane stuff as in 2015 I was living in Worthing just along the coast a bit and I witnessed/heard the Shoreham air crash which killed 11 people and injured many, many more and simply because the pilot was trying to be a bit clever and seemed to forget he was over a busy A27 and a field full of people.

Thanks, Dario. Me more ?
Must be a worry especially for you girls, although a few years back I had a hard lump about the size of a pea on my chest,I bottled out for ages in going to the docs, finally plucked up the courage fearing the worst, bloody relief when he told me it was a cerbaceous cyst, wish I’d gone much earlier and would have saved myself some sleepless nights!!!

The risk of her being injured in work
She won't be much older than the inmates. It is for 16 - 25 year old. She is 25 in August. Also Charlotte is a very empathetic kind person.I don't want her to lose that because of her working environment.

It is a worry specially for those who have a history of breast cancer among their family, but men also need to be cautious and you should never again delay such appointments. Xxx

I couldn't agree more Sassy, I lost my dad when I was aged 5 to cancer as the stubborn sod had been feeling rough for ages but hated doctors/hospitals and wouldn't get himself checked out until it was too late. I hardly knew the bloke whatsoever. It's why when I thought that I had an issue with bowel cancer during the early days of COVID i got it checked out straight away, there was just no way I could put my mum through that sort of worry again it would have killed her. Doctors want to help with this stuff so anyone with any concerns should just get themselves checked out asap.

Totally understand your hesitations, as a parent we always want to shelters our kids form any situation that could have some bad impact on them, but hopefully Charlotte will take into consideration these concerns before she accepts the job.

I’m supposed to get a second training next month so I can begin visiting the women jailing facilities in this area. My college has a lot of programs to help retrain inmates so I’m super excited about guiding these women through our enrollment process, but I just have to go there once per month so my situation would be very different from what your daughter’s job would be. Best luck to her with it, if she gets it.

I’m sorry, mate. That must have been devastating because maybe he could have been saved if he had gotten to get his check up instead of neglecting it, but my own experience with men in my life is that they don’t like to go to the doctors, and while inconvenient such appointments could save our lives so good for you getting yourself check, I am sure your mum was relieved you went.

She's very excited. Just needs to pass the fitness tests. She's always been very practical and hands on so I know this will suit her more than her current office based job. It's almost the polar opposite of what she does now. She's a placement officer with fostering agency. She matches kids with foster carers.
