I usually like getting a rep or a like. Be honest, you all do.

But I have just had one, relevant to these last few posts, that, frankly, I wish I had never ever seen.

*weeps*

@Woolly Blue

Strangely I'm edging towards @davek here. Last season his influence was pretty successful, and were almost intoxicated by his supposed ability.

It's easy to say with hindsight that we shouldn't have expected more when you look at his Wigan record, yet last year showed little of this.

It was a gamble that seemed to be paying off; maybe that's what makes this season and our decline even more difficult to swallow.

I sincerely hope this season is just a blip, nevertheless it's becoming more possible that that last season merely flattered him and deceived us.

Either way, I think his reputation as an upcoming manager (who'll one day manager Barca etc) is taking a pretty hefty battering.

He may have won the FA Cup with, but that coincided with relegation. He may have got us into Europe, but now we're teetering near an abyss.

I doubt many of the bigger clubs will ever take a risk upon him looking at how ad hoc his results can be.
Once he gets sacked from here it will be more blackpool than barcelona for the fraud.

RM was interviewed for the Telegraph, here is a short gist of it.

Roberto Martinez has expressed his continued belief that a commitment to creativity and passing football are the keys to success over time.

In a lengthy interview with The Telegraph's Henry Winter, the Everton manager rejects the assertion that changing the team's style of play as a quick fix to win a trophy is a long-term solution.

“Winning a trophy at any price can be very costly in the long run,'' he said. “Of course you have to defend, but you want to be creative, constructive.

“I don't think you would win it. You will always fall short.”

Winter probed the Catalan regarding his response to the Blues' current plight and the fact that managers like Jose Mourinho and Brendan Rodgers have adapted their tactics where needed.

“It's pure passion being involved in football," Martinez continued. "How you achieve something is as important as what you achieve. The journey has to be right.

“It's different when you've got the best players and that's more a specific game-plan for a specific game. I'm of a school of going to a game and enjoying a skill, a piece of talent that makes something happen, that gives you real pleasure. Winning is very, very important but you can chase that dream with good football, not just ‘finding a way' to win.”

We are lucky to have the catalan genius as our strong flexible leader

He will do well in Spain where his slow-build-up-tiki-taka will be more suited.

This kind of ethos and philosophy is what genuinely worries me about Martinez: it's more about attitude and his smooth veneer

Right now we need to be winning games to maintain survival and not worrying too much about how we achieve this. Does Martinez agree?

I sincerely doubt it. Instead of showing strength, guile and determination (winning ugly) it may appear as if he's unable to contemplate this.

He also mentions...

Opposing teams are now paying a lot of respect to us when they come into Goodison because of what we did last season [finishing 5th]. They are very conscious defensively. We’ve done it in Europe against the best teams. Look at what we’ve done against Wolfsburg. They lost only two games in 29 [four in 34 this season], both against Everton. Great performances
It's almost as if our success in Europe has clouded his judgement regarding the league. It works against top clubs so why not in the league?

A few good performances in Europe does not merit sticking with an approach that clearly is incorrect for getting points in the league.

I am genuinely concerned that Martinez doesn't have the capability to help formulate a strategy that will help us grind out results.

Delusional is the description that comes to mind.
