Luke Garbutt has been called up to the England Under-21 squad ahead of Tuesday's friendly against Scotland.

The left-back replaced the injured Luke Shaw and will join up with Club colleagues Ross Barkley and John Stones.

Garbutt, like Stones, is now in line for a first cap at Under-21 level, while midfielder Barkley will be looking to add to his four appearances.

The Young Lions take on Scotland Under-21s at Bramall Lane on Tuesday (7.30pm kick-off, live on BTSport1).

I think that may be the end of Garbutt at Everton, if he was seriously being considered as a future first team player I think he would have gone to the championship.
This seems to me to be more about fixing him with a club than grooming him for a first team spot.

Needs to be at a bigger club than Colchester. At age 20 perhaps needs to be at a championship club. I always though he would make it but might be difficult from here

I was hoping Garbutt would get a go at a championship club this season. From the little I have seen of him, he looks like someone with ability, but who really needs to develop a style of play that limits his weaker areas like physicality and pace. A lot of regular first team football will definitely help him with that.

Let's not rule someone out aged 20. Coleman was 21 before he made his league debut for us, and was in and out of the team for awhile after that. If a player doesn't make it properly till they're 23, 24 it doesn't mean they're not good enough, just means they'll have a 'shorter' career. That only impacts them, not us. They can still be good players for us.
