LUKE GARBUTT

It's unfortunate, he has Baines/Oviedo in there ahead of him. Moyes would sooner have played Distin than even let Garbutt on the bench. I just don't know if he will make it now, and that's no indictment of his ability - haven't seen enough to judge, tbh - just that it doesn't look like he'll get the opportunities and his contract is soon to be up.

Would be nice to keep him and keep the loans going - look at Andros Townsend and how that is now paying off.

There's no need to provide examples of when it doesn't work. Failure and disappointment are the default and expected outcomes, there are too many examples to count but everything from Wayne Routledge and Carlton Cole (who at least made semi-decent league careers) to Jeremy Aliadiare, John Bostock and so on.

What I'm saying is Townsend (to a lesser extent Osman) shows that a lengthy development time and several lower league loans doesn't in and of itself mean you can't be and won't end up a good player.

...I do think we have to be realistic about purchasing young talent. To a large extent you are buying potential and not many come through. The papers are full of stories of young stars joining Premier clubs but all too often that is the last that is heard of them. I'm not sure it matters a lot who the manager is, very few will realise that early promise when they step up to top level.

I agree with what your saying, apart from this bit

Great ball in for the first, great volley for the second. Has a sweet left peg on him.

Looks like he'll do well in the football league.

Hate a lb/rb with no pace. Great cross in though and good shot for his goal

Hibbert had hardly any pace and he was RB for a very long time! and Garbutt is one up on him having scored. I think there could still be a place for garbutt back here depends on him getting the right coaching and experience. Come January might need him for cover if Baines departs.
