Landon Donovan

I really don't see what the problem is to be honest.

Another player for 3 months or so, excellent. Whether he settles in well or not, he gives Moyes options.

This is how I feel. Even if Donovan doesn't do it, it's nice to have a player like that there just in case he does.

Thats the thing isnt it. Ive looked into the lerd. MLS MVP, leading American Scorer. Big point to prove, its surely only win, win. As ive already said, my only worry is that its so God Damn short.

Its a problem from my perspective mate, others may not agree - i dont think he will settle in two and half months and adjust to the prem in time to be any way significant.

I also dont think its the right move when you have a squad players with massive injury/depth problems going on two years now and you choose a player who will give you two and a half months rather then six - i mean he would have to be a hell of player to be twice another player on the market we could get for six months. Like i say he also has t prove he can play in the Prem and adjust in that time - i dont think he can or will, just on past expierence.

Ill always give the lad a chance and wait till i see more of him to make up my mind, hell im sure he has something to offer i just think the foundation wont be there for the lad or the team to flourish in a short space of time and from that point of view i think its a bad move for the lad and Everton. I cant help but think we will be seeing posts like this in the next few months:

"you could tell he was a player by the glimpses of quality he showed on the ball, but he wasnt here long enough"

He may not, but he still gives Moyes an extra body to work with for three months. How he uses Donavan is up to him, it might just be as a sub or as someone who could fill in, or maybe he'll start. We don't know, it'll be interesting.

Lets not forget, he'll also be available for Europa Leagues games which will give him more matches to prove himself as a player.

And if you look at the likes of Arteta, Fernandes and Jo - they didn't start that many games either. Arteta started eleven games, Jo started eleven games and Fernandes only started eight.

The good thing about the Donavan deal (if it goes through) is we could get it done and dusted now and he'll be available throughout January. Usually, we tend to loan players in the last few days of the window meaning they've missed a whole month anyway.

And you have to be realistic, our options will be very limited like they always are. Donavan's unproven but he's certainly a player that fits the bill in terms of style, an unpredictable player in the mould of Jo, Fernandes and Arteta. I'd much rather have him for three months than a Championship/lowe Premier League plodder for 6 months.

If we're gonna' do it I'd like to see him here by Monday so he can train with the lads for a couple weeks before the contract officially starts. Not gonna' happen though as he'll probably want to stay stateside for the holidays.

I gotta say, as an American fan living in California it would be an awesome thing to see Donovan in a Blue's shirt. He's got the work ethic of a Stevie-P and still had a lot of pace for a 27-year-old. I think if we put him in a position to be a solid contributor (and not tell him the hopes of our club ride on you), then he'll more than impress. He's a finisher and a good passer. He could maybe stand to learn a lesson or two about what it means to be a real teammate ... but I can think of no better place to learn about a true team-manship than Everton.

COYB!

P.S. - if LD joins the Blues, I'll be online that very minute with my credit card ready to but a shirt with his name on it. Are they still selling the purple ones in the team online store?

I would be happy with Alan Smith from the barcodes.

Oh dear Lord.

You're having a laugh mate.

Donovan somehow isn't good enough for Everton but Alan Smith is?

ALAN SMITH !!!

You're on a windup pure and simple here. Donovan is more than "good enough" for Everton. Believe me. This is coming from someone who watches Everton every weekend and MLS every weekend.

Unless I've somehow missed something in which case I eagerly await your enlightenment.

A question for mainly the Americans, Would you say Donovan is the best American Football Player?

He's been our best outfield player for the past 10 years with all due respect to Reyna, Dempsey, etc....

He won't have any problem at the Premier level of English football. Trust me on this.

Like Rook said so well earlier. If he was from Portugal or someplace like that, everyone would be drooling over having him here.

As it stands, he's from the USA so he must not be "good enough."

Makes me laugh really.

That is where I'm at on him. The fact that these discussions have advanced demonstrates Donovan is motivated to take a step up. I haven't heard his name connected in this manner to another European club since Bayern. He's always had the reputation of being extremely comfortable with his situation in Los Angeles.
