Joy Deprived

…..we have stayed up when others in a similar position have dropped into oblivion, I do think that’s something to be happy about. I also feel football is cyclical, a club of our size will have its time again.

I remember coming out of that League Cup final replay in the pouring rain at Maine Rd where Souness almost single handedly won them the game. Weirdly I wasn’t too disappointed because I knew we’d not only caught them up but we were actually better than them. I didn’t quite get that feeling on Sunday, but the gap has definitely closed.

Regardless, I’d much prefer to be an Evertonian and delighted I’ve passed that on to my own kids. Seeing my 5 little grandkids in their Everton kits is joyous for me.

I read a stat. We are the only english club this century to not experience a cup win or promotion or any form of success. Thats depressing
And all that time we were being run by the worlds biggest Evertonian that loved the club so much. Last time we won a trophy was when we had Johnson who I think was said to be a red.

Yes I agree in a way however we have beaten them at Goodison not long ago. We got an injury time equaliser against them last year when the ref prob played a bit more time etc so the derbies are what they are.

The silverware aspect will only change once we get a bigger squad with better players. My only let down is we always seem to let it goto pens and then get knocked out on them. Southampton, Fulham, Sunderland. But that’s where the quality comes in. You get better players and you can score more goals.

We have to hope we can spend and spend big in the summer but also getting it right is so important. For every Thiago there are 3 Barry’s. For every David Silva there are 3 Davy Klassens. We have to get it right.
Lots of sense here.

For every Ireola ( spelling?), Emery and Glasner there is a David 'two-pots-in-40yrs' Moyes ( including Division 2 promotion with Preston).
  1. Tactics- He does not have football to beat good teams ( never won an away game in 43 against top 4 in his first stint)
  2. Market - His track record for finding elite players is mixed. Last summer 130m?+ and the only player to make a positive impact all season is KDH. Nowhere near good enough.
  3. We are stable now, we have seemingly good ownership...
So how long do we persist with Moyes. Do we need more 'stability' next year? I think his graft , achievements and the personality of the team in his first stint here, done within the constraints of awful ownership, will long connect with many fans forever . It was pretty brilliant.

So I feel guilty considering when/ whether he should move on. Hopefully we make Europe and supporters get a little more intrigue to our season. Moyes will have deserved those away days too.

But I just don't see that in our football or a third pot in nearly 40 years ( if you do include that 2nd div promotion with Preston + euro conf league ) without fixing the positions he failed to fix with a lot of money last summer.

Tactically nothing made much sense Vs RS 2nd half, either. Same old.

2 pots in 40 years. Even my snooker is better than that.

I feel like: Let's grab Europe and next season enjoy it with a decent forward and FB. And if Moyes can't deliver that, then his work in V1 ( punching above our weight , regular Europe, FA CUP final) and V2, help stabilise, is done and with great credit.

Add Spurs to that list. Went all in to break their long wait for silverware and forgot to make sure they could stay in the PL.

….was thinking earlier, I was born into a world with RS outside the top flight and have seen the likes of United, Spurs, City (plenty) and Chelsea drop. I think there’s only Arsenal and ourselves that have maintained top flight status in my lifetime.
