After the years of spunking away billion pounds, it really is scary that the club have spent nearly £100 million on Barry, Rohl and Dibling in the summer. To be fair, KDH was a good signing but it still doesn't bode well.
I actually think we have a good collection of players with some glaring issues in others that dismantles the whole balance of the squad.
Pickford is an excellent keeper.
Branthwaite,
O'Brien and
Tarkowski are all good quality centre backs.
Aznou was highly thought of by Bayern and has a lot of potential (obvious to everyone who had seen him, bar
Moyes it seems).
To have CM options of
KDH, Gana, Garner,
Iroegbunam, Armstrong and Alcaraz is genuinely good depth. Röhl definitely had potential in the Bundesliga but was inconsistent and injury prone - wouldn't write him off yet (certainly not as a squad player). Illy is class, as is
Grealish.
Dibling and Barry have genuine potential. I've seen both play well before they came to us, and they are young. And I really wouldn't want
Moyes to be my manager if I was young.
We have no pace, no full backs and need more striking options (that is not to write off Barry, it's just a pathetically small number of attackers to have).
Sell off the deadwood and bring in things to address the gaps and this squad is transformed. A few years back we had about 3 players I would have kept if it was my choice. We are improving. But not quickly enough and itnis unforgivable to not address at least some of these in January. A striker on loan and some competent full backs (they don't even have to be world-beaters) and we could still get into Europe. The league is awful. Probably the lowest quality I can remember. And yet, I get the feeling that between Moyes, the committee and the owners, no one's in any rush to take us forward.
