January Transfer Window 2026

Cos we have half our first team players out and it’s not exactly easy to sell off highly paid and underperforming footballers

Im confident that McNeil, Patterson & Beto could be moved on for more than their book values. Significantly more.

Aznou replaces McNeil.

We just need a RB signed to replace Patterson

At the very least those 2 should be straightforward.

Beto is tricky so end of the window to sort that position.

But the first two could be done quickly.

There were 12 teams who spent more than Everton in the summer

Everton have also been a bottom 6 teams for a few years

In that context, what was the expectation level that brings you to the conclusion that it was/is a lost season?

On net spend we were 7th & if you add in Rohl & Grealish we would be 5th. A substantial investment for no discernible progress.

Last season 20 games 31 points
This season 21 games 29 points

And the football is cr*p.

The difference in net spend is negligible between quite a few teams outside the top 4 spenders, but you don't actually say what your expectation levels would have been?

Where are you getting your net spend from? This shows us as 13th

People need to chill their beans on Barry and Dibling. They are young players, and in a new league (in Barry's case) - playing under David Moyes. He is the kind of manager who (for all the good he can do at creating a bonded squad) regularly destroys the confidence of youngsters.

Not to mention the squad is so lacking in depth and quality in certain areas. We are so dysfunctional at the moment. People moan that we never find the players that other clubs do but aren't prepared to give them any space to develop.

Branthwaite looked to have talent when he came through but had some absolute honkers and had to go out on a few loans to get better.

The issue is players like McNeil who have stunk the gaff out for years and years and is nowhere near Premier League standard. You cannot have an attacking player who is totally one footed, weak, slow, no skill and no footballing brain. He GENUINELY isn't Premier League quality yet people make grand statements about young players.

We will be better when the McNeils, Mykolenkos and Keanes of this world are finally moved on.
This sums it up perfectly.

Is there a ‘strategy’ or a list of targets?

Most decent clubs move quickly enough which suggests the majority of the work on the deals was done months earlier. Evertons need is obvious but yet nothing.
Yeah. Clubs don't tend to publish or disclose it to the fanbase for approval though.

Rohl and Dibling were late signings.

Barry also definitely falls into the inflated fee category. He is not a 25m striker.
Rohl is on loan, not bought with an inflated fee

Dibling is a good player, will become a great player if we get a manager who has an ounce of faith in him to help him develop rather than leaving him constantly looking over his shoulder for the hook as soon as the second half kicks off.

Barry is a 21 year old kid coming into the most physical and demanding league in the world, he's shown enough for me (and for many ex-pros) to be confident that he'll develop well (with the same caveats as listed after Dibling above). Plus £25m is the base line for any striker these days. We've all seen higher fees wasted on far worse players.
