Unfortunately does not surprise me in the least, however, there are many people in Israel who are Jewish that don't hold those views, just hope it's them that can come to the forefront of their politics. In some ways Israel state behaves like an abused child can when it grows up. Becomes the abused but not all and it's those others will win through in the end.

I remember discussing with Dave a few years ago about how I sometimes relate Israel to a school yard bully. It's a simplistic argument and he disagreed, but...

Jews have been persecuted for centuries and this eventually cultivated the horror that was the genocide. Rightly or wrongly, this'll have had an adverse effect.

A child who has been bullied is twice as likely to be a bully themselves, with many psychologists relating it to defence mechanism; trauma is another big factor.

Has this seeped into the wider Israeli psyche due to the traumas they have faced? I'm not excusing their behaviour, far from it, but trying to understand it.

The views you talk about could quite easily have been said during the genocide or the pogroms, which makes it even more horrific - they should know better.

I agree - it beggars belief. I was amazed that a Jew could even contemplate genocide after what happened in Europe during WWII.

Maybe it was simply an extreme ill thought out view, borne out of ignorance? I hope so, because if that’s the general consensus amongst your average Israeli then there is no hope at all.

I'm just posting what I feel is truth, in this whole conflict I have sympathy for both sides, it must be terrifying hearing those sirens in isreal even with the iron dome neutralising most of the danger, there's always some getting by, obviously more terrifying in Palestine without defences to stop anything. I'm not sure how I'm coming across here, it's hard to describe my feelings on the whole situation, I genuinely can't come down as seriously pro or anti either side, at a push I'd be slightly more sympathetic towards Palestine, but it bugs me when people say it's genocide in all brutal honesty if it truly was the will of Isreal to commit genocide defined as the, deliberate killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group. I feel that with the military might of Isreal that it would have been done long ago.

Why would their undoubted ability to wipe every Palestinian out make what they're doing now in any way more palatable? "Well look, they're only killing a few hundred civilians and kids at a time, not the whole lot. So, you know, phew!"

Many amries/air forces have dropped warnings or broadcast times of bombing raids before, its been done for a long time. It is not an act of caution or an atempt to minimise casualties. Its a psychological weapon.

Its used to control or subjugate an enemy. IDF are forcing people to literally stand and watch their homes/livelihoods being destroyed. Its shock and awe.
