Current Affairs Israel is an apartheid state

I've thought about this. There's no way they didn't know.

Could the Israelis have let this happen so they can justify a huge attack on Hamas?
Very doubtful. Netanyahu might benefit from a rally-round-the-flag effect in the short term, but the serious fractures in Israeli domestic politics and his lengthy tenure over the years mean he's more likely to take the blame for this.

It's also worth pointing out that what's good for Hamas is bad for the Palestinian Authority. The last thing the Israelis want is for Hamas to gain popular support for overthrowing the PA. Hamas would turn the West Bank into a staging ground for attacks and start pushing back against Israeli policies, and its borders are far harder to control than Gaza's limited entry and exit points.

Yes. As they should.

Sadly for the Palestinians the consequence should come from the international community. It won't of course, so Hamas take a few dollars from Iran and strike a 'great victory on behalf of the oppressed' or some other such guff.

You'd like to think so, I just feel the general mood is definitely a bit skewed.

Maybe it's just me.
I think a lot of people in here are aware of the oppression (putting it lightly) that the Palestinian people have faced for decades, so when things like this happen its no real surprise. There's no one saying what Hamas planned and did is a good thing. Its obviously disgraceful. Hamas are certianly not going about things the right way. The Palestinian people need to push Hamas out and begin peaceful talks and try to move forward.

However, with Israel's constant land grabs and murder of innocent Palestinians while doing so, that has been happening for decades now, peace will not prevail until both sides cease with the fighting/land grabs etc etc.. Its very sad for both sides what is happening, but Israel (government) in the grand scheme of things are not innocent like some people try to make out.

Someone needs to break the endless cycle.

In response to continual Israeli oppression of the Palestinians we’ve seen groups like Black September, Fatah, PIJ, PLO, Hamas all launch terror campaigns against Israel in the name of freedom.

However all their actions of terror have simply resulted in yet more degradation and suffering for your average Palestinian, who just wants a better life.

Nothing breaks the cycle of violence - now it appears that many moderate Israelis are leaning toward the hard right leadership of their country.

I can’t see a way out of this for anyone - just more death and destruction.

Lets face it, righty or wrongly, many or most people think that Israel got a taste of its own medicine over the weekend. That's the underlying and prevailing mood.

I know why you think that.

From my perspective, I saw it more as it was only a matter of time before things escalated... again. It needs quashing on both sides and an agreement making. But it will never happen. Similar to Ukraine/Russia, they will never reach an agreement.

There was a guy on BBC news just then. He was questioning why, the West, UK/EU etc spend billions supplying Israel with weapons and intelligence so they can destroy Gaza, but we then spend billions rebuilding Gaza, only for the cycle to happen again 3-4 years later!! Its been happening for decades now. Its honestly mind boggling!!

Yep, I don't know what the answer is, but tit for tat hasn't worked for the past 70 years, it's amazing to think that the leaders can't see that.

It's mind boggling to decent ordinary people. It's business and geopolitics to the western elites and makes perfect sense,.
