Isolated Players (Front Page Article)

Surely the main reason for the removal of the four players from 1st team training sessions is that the league starts in one week, Silva wants to maximize focus and atmosphere and trust in the group, and the four are not in Silva's plans.

Absolutely no use in having a bunch of hangarounds with one foot out the door attending training sessions.

Compare with an space shuttle crew or military mission team or what you like.

Vlasic was the new Besic for me. A young european player with glimpses of brilliant potential that we got in on early. Really hoped both would work out and be outstanding blues one day. I'm surprised that Besic looks to have more future here than Vlasic...

Hate giving up on good young talent like Vlasic or Lookman, hope the sell prices are great, if not, loan them.
Hopefully he gets loaned out and not sold. I like the potential I've seen

What the hell is the job for a captain on the field besides throwing the coins?

Really cannot understand the "replace the captain" madness. Do the post of captain that important that he must be able to take on the field every game? I remember Garry Monk's last few seasons at the swans when he clearly is not playing for a slew of circumstances despite nominally captain.
In my eyes the captains role is stand up and be counted when the going gets tough also to be in the refs ear and bollocking players who arnt pulling there weight jags dos'ent do any above the above

I mean seriously. Wasn't Vlasic one of the last cuts from the Croatia national team that just lost in the finals of the WC! Hasn't found his feet yet, but showed me more than Klaasen or Sandro in less time.

I’m gonna stick my neck on the chopping block and say that Ashley Williams and Cuco Martina are not going to pull a Niasse-style redemption on us.
I'd welcome it. I'm hoping Keane pulls that more than Williams. I wanted us to sign williams years ago when Moyes was rumored to be looking. We bought him too late, but he's a fine player, just past it at this point.

Cuco could surprise but I hope he doesn't. He was played out of position all last year (he's a RB) so if he's playing, that means Coleman isn't, and that's no good for me. I don't mind Cuco staying, especially with Baines and Digne around, we likely never see him at LB again.

Let's all look back and point at this being an early sign of Silva's downfall ala Lockergate 6 months from now.

The only surprise is it's only 4 players. I'd have told the vast majority of the first team to go and train with the under 23s. :D

Neither of them are going to do it anyway so it’s alright. And Cuco played right back for the first quarter of the season and was arguably worse than at left back, he has zero to offer.

One thing I sincerely disagree is talking to the ref. No one talk to the ref unless told to. I'm more than happy to dish out cards to intervening captains.

Hopefully Jags is transitioning to a club captain role as a team representative to the public rather than on the pitch.

Its about getting the squad to a manageable number, if we remove the players who will either be sold or moved to the U23s, we are left with :

GK
Jordan Pickford
Maarten Stekelenburg

RB
Séamus Coleman
Jonjoe Kenny

LB
Leighton Baines
Lucas Digne

CB
Michael Keane
Phil Jagielka
Mason Holgate

DM/CM/AM
Morgan Schneiderlin
James McCarthy
Idrissa Gueye
Gylfi Sigurðsson
Tom Davies

Widers
Richarlison
Theo Walcott
Ademola Lookman

Strikers
Cenk Tosun
Oumar Niasse
Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Now clearly we need additions, but 20 players is better than the 38 we started with.
