Isolated Players (Front Page Article)

I was reading about football contracts and it seems that some players have a clause in their contract which specifies that they are members of the First Team Squad and that they are to be treated as such throughout the length of their contract. A club would be obviously in breach of contract to treat a player with a clause of that nature in the way that these four have been. Whether any Everton player has a contract with a first team clause in it I have no way of knowing but I would expect players bought for big fees and those bought from richer, more successful clubs might be the most likely candidates to have a contract with a clause like this.

I would hope that's not the case with us, hopefully that's why we miss out on some transfers.

With Walcott, Richarlison, Lookman, Bolasie and even Dowell and Sandro - not sure we need Vlasic.

Not saying he is a bad player but we could probably sell him on with little impact.

Well, I'd like to have seen Vlasic given a little more time but, on the other hand, I don't mind a Manager who is firm & clear about his intentions, as opposed to just taking a Locker off them & hoping they just go away.

Vlasic is out of shape - as others have said - and looks bad. I think there's some vision, some touch, some talent in there, but sending him out on loan where someone will put him into the first team at a lower level could be helpful.

Has anyone thought that the reasons they have been told to stay away is that they're all subject to bids from other teams..Williams and Miralles look like they're off hopefully

You talk some tosh. Swing the axe? He´s still our most reliable centre half.
We´re obviously doing our best to recruit a defender, but until we do, who would you have Silva replace him with?
He's trash. Utter trash. "Most reliable" doing what - falling over/giving the ball away/hoofing it long/acting like a church mouse rather than a captain?

Intrigued to know here.

Silva can only tell him so many times to follow instruction. I hope its a kick up the backside rather anything else for the kid.

The other three is just a wake up call; go and find yourself a new club as we don't want you. Hopefully there agents on the case now. If theyre happy to sit on the contract do we really want them around the place anyway? I don't think we will need to rely on them should we have an injury spate.

Aye, awooga

I take your point and enjoy the debate but I’d liken it to the arrival of Phil Neville. The main reason Moyes brought him in was to manage and break the player problems caused by Ferguson. I have no links to the club now, just believe in consecutive managers who know more about elite football than anyone on this forum. He definitely shouldn’t be starting but as a club captain managers must value his input or wouldn’t do it. Shouldn’t stop discussion though.
But in this instance HE is the Ferguson figure, or at least the problem.

A 36 year old bang average CB who has no leadership qualities and has form for downing tools under previous managers...crack on if that's the standard you want to be seeing in our defence. It's not my idea of progress like.

Probably a bit depressed given the way things worked out last season. Remember the boos that were aimed at one of Sam’s subs and Niksi thought it was aimed at him? He obviously wasn’t mentally ready to deal with the crowd. Sam should have sent him on loan like he requested.

Most reliable Everton centre back currently available?

That's like saying a certain sample of diarrhoea is the most solid for picking up.

Having said that, who would we replace him with? He has to stay for now, but we should be getting centre backs over the next few transfer windows to completely overhaul that area of the team as I fear the youngsters aren't anywhere close to giving me confidence that they will mature into capable Premier League standard defenders, let alone top 6 or Champions League quality.
