Is Martinez our best signing this year?

Indeed, i'm very happy with the appointment so far though.

That said, I'd come to dislike Moyes so much by the end of his tenure here a garden gnome with the liver bird tatooed on his f*cking forehead would've done more for me than him.

+1

Sums it up.

Which is largely fair. I hope Kone will too. And I think he has all the attributes too, and like I put in my first post, I am impressed with Martinez. I hope he continues to give younger players a game. From What I've seen of Grant, he's already a similar level to that of Neville. It's a results business in the end though.

Terrible insult to a good young player at the club that.

like the way the man has come in and set his stall, either he's a forward thinking man who is going to build a wonderful legacy for our club,or...........he's a first class bullshi**er.

as a matter of interest, who would you rather at this very moment in time ?.Moyes or Martinez ???.the latter for me

I agree with this 100%! We can easily improve on our league position. Christ knows why some people have written off finishing in the top 6, and are already getting the excuses in. How little faith do they have in Martinez?

What you are ignoring is outside of top 4 the league positioning is much of a muchness for many of us - even Europa qualification is looked on as a bloody nuisance bar the days out.

Far more important than the hinterland betwixt relegation and CL qualification is winning something. I would bet my last penny those arguing otherwise have never seen Everton win something and only when the day actually comes will they understand.

Here's the thing, something has to change 11 years with the same methods without silverware is not coincidence - something is fundamentally wrong if clubs we consider lesser than us are winning stuff. To dictate there is no margin for error that Martinez attempts to rectify the dust laden barren desert that is our recent history must work instantaneously is childish - making omeletes and breaking eggs, yeah?

Life simply doesn't work like that it's not a straight line route.... more like approaching Villa's gaff via spaghetti junction then parking up only to be car-jacked, mistakes will be made.

Jose.

I'm genuinely baffled by people who seem to think he's going to be crap in the league.

The same players are still at the club. People are making out Martinez is some sort of idiot.

I realise people have different opinions, but this really does seem very unfair on him.

He has been a Premier League manager for 4 full seasons.

In that time the most points he has gained as a manager is 43 and the fewest goals they have conceded is 61.

Compare his performances with Wigan to the likes of Norwich, Swansea, WBA who all operate on similar budgets and it really isn't that impressive.

He talks very well about the type of game he'd like to play and is applauded for encouraging his teams to play out from the back but when these tactics result in letting in nearly 2 goals a game on average then something needs to change in the managers mindset.

If it doesn't we will fall down the league.

we were never going to get a manager who guaranteed success but we are a stable club and I think a lot of the optimism is based on the fact that we have a squad of bright, talented players who have worked together well. they could easily suit Martinez's approach a lot more than what he had at Wigan, and also Martinez is a young manager with good ideas and a learning curve ahead of him. he doesn't come across as arrogant and if he is going to turn promise and good ideas into success then this feels like the right club for him at the moment. managers and players are all about 'right time, right place' and he is clearly clever enough to know that his next step has to include more consistency and success. its scary but think we got to embrace that for it to work

also dont forget that Davey didnt have ANY premiership experience? i believe with our squad RM might just do good. we have to be prepared to give him time to bed in and get his style across the team

He's transforming the way we play - and I guarantee that won't be plain sailing. It's unreasonable to suggest he'll do better than Moyes in his first season.

Even if he gets the transition sorted by Christmas, which in all honesty I think is optimistic, we've still lost 4 months of the season to the process.

On top of all that, we still don't know if we're losing two of our best players this transfer window.

I'd absolutely love him to get us there, but you can't seriously have the expectation of a top-6 finish.
