Current Affairs Irish Border and Brexit

I’ve said it before and I’ve seen and heard nothing to change my view, Varadkar has single handedly ruined any chance of a deal with his political manoeuvrings and demands. All the while stating, and often repeated on here by his supporters, that he has 26 countries backing him up. Well very shortly he is going to find out what the big boys league is all about...

It's so odd how you are so determined to support the people who want to bring about Brexit that you pin the blame on the man trying to ensure a fragile peace process doesn't come undone and damage his country. What do you mean about 'the big boys league' - if you mean statesmen and diplomats who are used to negotiating and are good at it, you realise Britain is further from that than Ireland, don't you?

It is a disaster, but what is causing it. The U.K. voted to leave. The Scottish FM just wants independence and is using the fact that Scotland voted Remain as the excuse. The Welsh FM is Labour and although Wales voted overwhelmingly to leave is still playing party politics. The disaster has come about because Remainers will not accept the result of the vote, and that is it in a nutshell. We had a vote and they will not accept it, that is the real democratic disaster......no need to apologise for a rant, we all have differing viewpoints......

Or this is the biggest political shakeup this country has ever faced and only now are the people who headed up leave realising that they have no idea how to go about it. The world is very complicated, the intricacies of economics and free movement are very complicated, Leave wilfully ignored this and acted like it was going to be as simple as moving house or getting a divorce.

There was not even an issue about peace until he raised it in public. Also, and let’s be very clear here, the ROI did not suffer that greatly, the overwhelmingly greatest number of deaths took place within the U.K., specifically NI. So it was not even Varadkars place to be going on about this in the first place. He has deliberately stirred the pot and he should be ashamed of himself......

And it should have been. It’s politicians and bureaucrats that try to make it complicated. There will be a big political shakeup in the country, and perhaps it was time to do so, nothing is forever and we will adapt to whatever position we end up .....

Seamless border, peace process, all the things that the U.K. government have promised ad nauseam. Who has even suggested that the U.K. is trying to push the ROI around, really. The U.K. provides the ROI with a large trading market and it works both ways. The U.K. provides the ROI with a Common Travel Area. The U.K. also provides the ROI with Air and Sea Defence, granted in order to protect ourselves. The U.K. has bent over backwards for the ROI since it’s inception, yet still we have this anti - U.K. rhetoric. In the past people like myself had an affinity for what was ‘the old country’, but eventually there is only so much animosity that you can take. So I hope Boris plays a very hard game, knowing he and his party are toast if he doesn’t, and what will be will be......
You're an actual idiot

Now you are showing yourself up as incredibly either poorly read on this subject or just not able to comprehend it. Ireland was a single entity until less than 100 years ago, the peace process very much involves Ireland. Genuinely baffled that you can state it's not the Taoiseach's place to speak on this when it will directly have implications. Absolutely ridiculous.

That isn't a strategy! That's an unthinking throwing of sticks up in the air. People will go hungry, people will lose homes, people will lose access to healthcare if this is not handled well - how do you care so little about all this?

@peteblue there seems to be a flotilla of upset following you every time you enter this thread, which as most of those getting upset are Irish suggests you're substantially lacking in either tact or understanding of life there. Might I suggest you leave this thread be as the constant flow of reports about you is not great.

If we are now ruled by the mob then so be it. As one of the people who pushed for the current affairs section to enter existence, I find it sad that intolerant groups have formed and are unwilling to debate or take offence at differing viewpoints. It is obviously disappointing that people resort to reports rather than argue their point, I’m sorry if it takes up your time. I will no longer take part in this thread and it can remain a thread of single minded, single viewpoint Irish fuming at the British government.....

Ha ha! Brilliant! The British public voted for Brexit. The British government negotiated the WA. The British MPs voted the WA down three times. The British public elected a minotity government, which is now propped up by a bunch of bigots who cannot and will not compromise. 0.2% of the British public voted this complete mess of a Prime Minister in. This British Prime Minister is apparently not going to negotiate with he EU until it backs down over it's border with a non EU (shortly) country.

And it's all Leo Varadkar"s fault. You get madder by the day @peteblue.
