You'll note he's (the ref) also looking at Lallana at the time of the alleged slur - the ear facing Holgate and Firminho has got an ear piece in. Easily possible that he didn't hear it, because he definitely didn't see it as his head is facing the wrong way.

You are doing the typical Twitter Kopite thing of saying 'he obviously only says puta', whilst completely disregarding the fact that Holgate only reacts when Firminho's head is obscured.

So why are you repeating this complete nonsense about the lip readers? The lip readers have confirmed one thing...that Firmino did not racially abuse Holgate before Holgate alleged he had. You can see from the footage that Firmino is shouting at him in Portugese and Holgate does not react. Therefore this part of the 'evidence/proof' is absolutely 100% irrelevant to the allegation that followed.

The part that needs to be investigated is what was said at the point that Holgate reacts. The 99% you mention (both you and I included as well as the lip reader who gave his opinion to the Mirror), have no way of telling what Firmino said because Kenny's head was obscuring Firmino.

Not that hard to understand yet loads have fallen for this media/Liverpool fan manipulation of the incident.

If I were Holgate in this situation, where it's possible I am still being booked for that nasty shove, I would be looking for an easy out of the situation.

I, much like Holgate, speak little to no Portuguese.

If I hear Firmino call me a puto, I know what that means and I'm pointing fingers trying to deflect the blame onto him.

With that being said, the consensus here is obviously that it's not the "puto" part that gets Holgate upset, but something that apparently only he can hear. Really hoping for that other camera angle to reveal whatever it was.

I think it`s the other way around mate.

The fact that the ref hasn`t done anything means the FA can step in and punish him.

If the ref gives a card, I think that`d be the end of it as far as the FA are concerned.

while of course i agree it is possible the ref couldnt have heard it, you just feel like even if he wasnt paying attention the ' n word ' would immediately snap him back into it . i feel like i could be in a busy room and still be able to pick out someone saying it, such a shocking and horrible word that we're unused to hearing. i can understand peoples skepticism from that point .

just best to see what comes out in terms of what firmino is supposed to have actually said and whetehr a misunderstanding on holgates part is plausible. actually know a blue that works at melwood and firmino is meant to be a really nice guy. just seems so strange
