Holgate Racially Abused By Firmino - The Guardian

It wasnt a nudge though, which we do see all the time. It was a blatant 2 handed push right into the direction of the hoardings when he was already heading that way. It was dangerous and he rightly could gave recieved a red card.

Meh, no worse than anything I’ve seen before.

Remember Rooney pushing a Spanish player into the crowd in an England friendly years back and the commentators chuckling at it.

The shouts about how he could have broke his neck are beyond ridiculous.

Red?? Don’t be daft.

All opinions though isnt it. I thought the challenge on De Bruyne the other was poor but not that bad yet there was uproar. Alli has had a few horrific ones imo and there isnt much fuss about him.

I feel he could have got a red and I personally wouldnt have been shocked if he had.

Well whatever the ins and outs of this, that Ref did a good job with the actual incident, imo. And yeah, it was the softest of soft pens, but if the initial shove by Holgate was down to that, that needs to be cut right out.
I think the ref handled it poorly. Holgate should’ve been booked for the push, Firmino should have been booked for his reaction (that’s even if he wasn’t being racist), referees shouldn’t have to hold players back. Obviously if something racist was said, Firmino should’ve been sent off.

I’ve never seen a player sent off for pushing someone in the back before. Have you?

To be honest with you, my first reaction was Mason was going for an early bath.

The push itself was innocuous enough but it looked much worse because of Firmino diving over the wall and into the RS fans.

And he might have, would certainly have received a yellow, if that bugger had not reacted like the buck teethed loco he is.

In fact, such was the melee he instigated, the ref never even gave them a free kick, just a throw in.

Holgate didn't give him the push way out of play. Hands were on his back in the field of play and Firmino was one stride over the sideline when the push happened. Nothing to see here as far as the push is concerned. Happens every week with players rushing to the end line to stop/win a corner and someone is pushed into the advertising.

Hope they take the complaint seriously and don't dismiss it bc it's on of the Sky teams.

Forgot about that, the ref was pathetic, so weak

I have seen players get sent off for a push to the chest in acres of space. This was much worse as he pushed him right into the hoardings.

Holgate should definitely have been carded. Not a red though. Looks worse because he went over the hoardings but that push anywhere else on the pitch is just a yellow. Not Holgates fault the hoardings are that close to the edge of the pitch.

See to me thats why it could have been a red. If he done that in the middle of the pitch it wouldnt be as bad, but right as the stepped over the line heading towards the fans/hoardings, Mason gives him a right push knowing full well where he's heading.

As I say, its opinions. I understand why people may not think it was but I do.
