Holgate Racially Abused By Firmino - The Guardian

Totally agree mate, but you just know the FA will say with the Andre Gray stuff they set a precedent, so have no choice.

Two completely different episodes imo mate. One was an adult making clear anti gay views, the other a minor joking with a friend. I'm not even sure if the FA have any jurisdiction in the matter.

If they do take action it would indeed set a precedent for the future. Not sure whether the Andy Robertson post from earlier in this thread was a wind up, but I'm sure there will be lot's of cases like this if people were to make the effort to go back and look. And the FA will be aware of this.

I dont think they will charge him over those tweets, but they will be glad the subject is being widely circulated because it'll help them come to their fudged conclusion that both players are failing in their duty to not bring the game into disrepute and a game or two ban will come both players way...the Firmino punishment being over his 'puto' comments rather than dragging in the racist comments he undoubtedly said.

Totally agree mate, also agree that at the end of the day what Holgate said as a kid the FA should have no jurisdiction over. You just know with the FA though, they'll say that because he was a youth team player with a professional football club then they are within their right to investigate.

Those Holgate tweets must have been a god send for the FA dave, it gives them (as you say) an easy way to give them both a slap on the wrist with lesser charges.

The worst thing for me is that our manager/club left a space free by not backing 100% their own player and the vacuum was filled by Liverpool fans getting on to their friendly journos who created an altogether investigation than it was meant to be.

The club is a shambles. We'll get taken advantage of because they aren't clued up or even arsed enough about defending our players or presenting a competent image of the club these days.

Imo, this is the worst we've been for decades all told. A laughable door mat of a club.

It all stems from immediately post derby match. Not completely backing his player Allardyce allowed the narrative to be spun in the opposite direction.

The feller either couldn't give a damn about his own player or is a complete 'kin duffer.
Well obviously he's a complete 'kin duffer, but we knew that before the board appointed him.:)

But that doesn't mean he could have handled this much differently. Ignore the homophobic issue as you are suggesting would leave the club open to massive criticism, and publicly backing the player blindly would do the same.

As long as the player is getting the support behind the scenes I'd be happy. Mason's not daft. He'll regret making those tweets when he was a kid, but I'm reasonably confident that common sensed will prevail here and this will all blow over.

The media have behaved despicably though.

Must admit, at one point because of how silent we were over all this (I know we'll say there's an investigation etc) I actually started to question if the incident had actually happened.

That's how insidious it is. It gives rise to self-doubt.

The Kopites and their media allies have pummelled us into the dirt on this matter. Remember they tried to do the very same with United over Evra - they got their arses handed to them on plate. United came out of the traps quickly and made Suarez the issue.

Here we allowed Liverpool to make Holgate the issue.

Complete 'kin clowns run this club, from the dugout to the boardroom to the owner....and he's the biggest clown of all.

I don't disagree mate. I said earlier in this thread that I can see the FA using this, and probably the threat of a violent conduct charge for the push, to get Holgate to withdraw his racist allegations. It would suit the FA if Mason admitted he misunderstood Firmino's comments and the whole thing blow over.

However, this would also be a total kick on the teeth for anti-racism in football had Mason's allegations been true.

Said before, football stinks sometimes.

Clubs have learned a lot from the Suarez affair - there's now very clearly a direction from The FA to say absolutely zero while there's an investigation

Liverpool have also remained tight-lipped and haven't sought to back their player in public either.

Ridiculous to blame the club for not speaking out

Totally agree mate, you only have to google Mason Holgate, and the searches are all about the 'Homophobic' tweets, FA investigate tweets etc.
We needed to come at every opportunity to push the Firmino alleged racist remarks (like you say the Mancs did with Suarez) sad to say it, the Kopites have shown us how it's done when you need to scapegoat someone big style to avert the public/media eye from the real issue.

You’re over reacting imo.

Allerdyce was probably warned not to say anything after the game about the alleged racist incident.

Whether he said anything or not it wouldn’t have stopped the inbreds next door trawling through Holgates past to try and take the heat off them and their player.

You seem to use every opportunity to attack the club and its manager.

You either like being a WUM or you have issues that you need help with.

The club and the manager have done very little wrong here. Holgate has made his allegations, it’s now up to the FA to investigate and draw its own conclusions.

Grow up or get some help.

I'm not on about the club actually coming out ranting, raving and saying Firmino made the racist remarks, etc, etc, it's more a case of making sure that it stays in the public eye, because at this moment in time it's all about 'homophobic' Holgate, the alleged racist remarks have taken a back seat.

Like my Southampton supporting neighbour said to me "So who's this gay basher playing for you"

While I take your point, 'completely backing' your player in instances such as this is dangerous territory and exactly the sort of thing that is being deemed disgraceful by you when demonstrated by Liverpool fans.

clutching at straws here but,.....am i the only one who remembers mcfadden getting sent off against arsenal in the cup at goodison for foul and abusive language?
If i'm right then the refs not only ducked the possible racial abuse but he's also ducked the chance to make a statement to back up the 'respect the ref' idea and send him off for the use of his language in the context?
