Holgate Racially Abused By Firmino - The Guardian

If the FA charges a player for comments made when they were just 15 years old it will be petty, pathetic and rediculous

I’m still waiting for Lallana’s charge for deceiving the referee into awarding a penalty in the cup game too.

Get your house in order English FA!!

This whole situation shows just how sad the footballing world has become. Blind devotion to your own players disregarding any infraction because they score a goal.

The Liverpool fans are just acting how devotees do when one of their icons are attacked.

The parallels football is drawing with extremism is a worrying trend.

Even the hooligan days don't compare to today's environment, with social media mob rule is more prevalent that ever before. People don't care about Holgate or Firmino they just care about winning.

The more advanced we get technologically, the further into the past society gets.

Today people judge on hearsay emotion and the fact or the truth of the matter is irrelevant

did allardyce only get asked about holgate's tweets and not about the much bigger race issue? POr was it BBC only decided to publish that?

It's absolutely pathetic, and a surprising number of Liverpool's fanbase have yet again proven themselves to have learned nothing from past incidents. Instantly jumping to the defence of one of their own without knowing what has actually fully gone on. Using irrelevant evidence to categorically state that Holgate has lied (the puta stuff), and then trying to turn the tables around on to the potential victim of racism by dragging up past actions that are irrelevant to this case.

Some of ours have been pathetic too, and I couldn't be bothered wasting my time trying to find dirt on their players but if Liverpool fans want to start petty things like dragging up past tweets of a 15/16 year old, then I have no issue with some of ours who have the time doing it back to them.

It's a week on and I still stand by the view that Firmino is innocent until proven guilty but this is a serious allegation that needs to be investigated fully with both sides being able to give their account of what happened without internet experts deciding that one or the other is guilty of doing something that none of them can prove.

Sounds to me like he refused again to back Holgate up when presented with the opportunity to do so.

If asked about the Holgate tweets any manager worth their salt would sweep that aside and not even address it - they'd just underline that there is an ongoing case of a professional footballer allegedly racially abusing one of his players and that more will be said on the matter when the FA rules on it.

Allardyce has handled this situation like an amateur. If I were Holgate I'd have no faith or respect for him. I'd expect my manager to be right in there and going to war for me.

Spot on, hope he's gone in the summer jobs to bog for him. Klopp would be defending Firmino in the same instance.

Innocent until proven guilty?
Not in today’s media world, if it panders to the vocal minority, you are guilty immediately - look at events in the welsh assembly, poor guy suspended not even knowing what he’s done. Too much control by biased organisations who determine the rules to suit their own agendas

I don't know mate as I haven't seen the presser, but it was the same on Sky. If the reporters only asked about the homophobic tweets of a 15 yo, and not mention the alleged racial enquiry at all, then that is an absolute disgrace. Likewise, if questions were asked of both, but the Beeb and Sky only decided to report on one and not the other, then that is equally as bad, if not worse.

I've never been one for these conspiracy theories, but I really can't believe how this episode is panning out in the media. Hopefully, for the sake of everybody, it will get a proper hearing by the FA.

Have a rest mate.

Totally agree mate, but you just know the FA will say with the Andre Gray stuff they set a precedent, so have no choice.

Dave, I'm a lot more outspoken on the manager than you are, but to a large extent he and the club are in a lose lose situation here. The best he and the club can do in public is play down the situation, which he tried to do in saying it was a tweet from "many many years ago", and hope the issue goes away on it's own.

Behind the scenes you'd like to believe that the club are saying the right things to the player and will support him fully in the event (unlikely event in my opinion) that charges are brought.

The real villains here are the media who for some reason are trying to make an issue of this at the same time as playing down the ongoing racist allegation investigation.

It all stems from immediately post derby match. Not completely backing his player Allardyce allowed the narrative to be spun in the opposite direction.

The feller either couldn't give a damn about his own player or is a complete 'kin duffer.

You play down their importance by ignoring the issue and refusing to be engaged with it and then power right through with a defence against the racial abuse your own player says he received.

It's just basic stuff that.

Two completely different episodes imo mate. One was an adult making clear anti gay views, the other a minor joking with a friend. I'm not even sure if the FA have any jurisdiction in the matter.

If they do take action it would indeed set a precedent for the future. Not sure whether the Andy Robertson post from earlier in this thread was a wind up, but I'm sure there will be lot's of cases like this if people were to make the effort to go back and look. And the FA will be aware of this.
