2025/26 Harrison Armstrong

….we have a CM axis of 3, with these showing they’re very capable in those positions;
KDH
Garner
Gueye
Iroegbunam
Rohl
Armstrong

You could also factor in Alcaraz and McNeil as possibilities but difficult to see either gate crashing the party.

That’s quite a lot of options and it’s an area we look particularly strong. When fit, Garner and KDH look a shoo-in so in reality we have 4 (Gueye, Iroegbunam, Rohl and Armstrong) vying for one position.

Heckingbottom says ‘David and his coaches know what they have with Armstrong’, but I wonder if he’s actually surprised them with his level. Saying that, looking at all the options we have then it might not be the biggest surprise if Armstrong goes back even though I prefer him to stay.

No other Premier League side, particularly one with such limited squad depth, would send a young breakthrough player, who’s impressing and looks completely at home at the highest level, back out on loan to a lower division. Frankly, it would be an insult to his ability. If Moyes uses his bench properly, Armstrong should get more than enough game time between now and the end of the season; and who knows, he might even make himself undroppable (i kinda think he is atm).

You may all laugh it is 50-50 will be sent back to the mighty PNE - I predict if DM does that it will be his downfall - why our bench is the weakest in the prem in the top 15 teams - more injuries may occur we need also two good fullbacks & a goalscorer as discussed above our midfield unit has strength if we play a 3 in there - DM seems to think two will do - & HA proved the other night v a top 3 team - we can beat a top 3 side with the right engine in midfield - all 3 were outstanding - the best midfield I have seen us utilise for ages ......

So if DM makes a stupid decision - he will have to explain why he felt it was necessary to send a top midfielder to a team that don't even look like making the play offs anyway - his home team its were he still lives -

His priority should be EFC - end of !

Given we still have an outside chance of Europe and given that Grealish might be a long-term absentee and we could and probably will have more injuries and suspensions sending him back would be crazy. But then Moyes.

Im conflicted on it mate. I think hes a PL player - but some how we've ended up with a lot of options in centre midfield:

Garner
Idrissa
Tim
Rohl
Alcaraz
KDH
Harrison.

Thats 7 into w positions - max 3.

If realistically hes not going to get any mins for the rest of the season then he might be better off getting mins for Preston and competing for something.

These are two of our best players.

We missed Gana a lot when he was away.
gana was a great midfielder & I have to admit the last 10 games of the last two seasons he put in stella performances to stave off relegation - but now he seems to lose energy - hence a strong bench would give DM far more options & HA has been out on loan for one & a half seasons - even when Joe Cole states what a player he is in midfield outstanding are you stating it wise to send him back or rely on maybe more injuries to hit our squad or rely on a 36 year old who has be a great midfielder - to perform week in week out with the energy of the three that played at Villa ?

Ones old - 2 are injured - & one is injury prone plus we have lost Grealish - plus our bench is very weak .....

I have seen zero evidence of him losing energy. People think he will because of his age but he is a ridiculous athlete who hasn't lost a step fitness wise. He played every minute of every important game in AFCON too.

He will be fine for now.

Why you getting angry at me, with your "End of" posts..

I thought that was very sweet of you carrying Armstrong back from Preston on your shoulders.

You must of got your steps in..

Fine does not equal brilliance as in HA & Rhol were the last game v a top 3 side away .....

I'm not conflicted at all.

Harrison is , for me in the top 3 of those central midfielders and more importantly gives great balance to Garner and KDH who I guess most would agree are automatic names on the team sheet when fit.

However if someone ( yes you David ) thinks that Gana should be playing ahead of Harrison then coming on for a tiring Gana is a wonderful option.

I'm sorry but if you think that Tim or Merlin ( who are both starting to show promise and have different attributes) are ahead of Harrison then I suggest you give your head a wobble.

As for Charly , sorry but it's adios I fear.

Only a fool send Harrison back to PNE after his recent displays
