It’s true, but my beef with the Preston loan is that he was already coming off half a season of game time where he had excelled (at Derby) and had shown, in my opinion, that he was ready. I think sometimes people look at a player’s age rather than what they’re doing on the pitch and how mature they are.

I may have said it was time for him to move on, which his move to the mighty Leeds, has proved to be correct decision for him.

No I didn’t mean you at all Swartzy - just lots of fans! It’s a bee in my bonnet that when people get back from a loan and come into the team and do well, it’s generally accepted that it’s because of the loan. Sometimes it definitely is, but sometimes I think the player was absolutely ready to contribute already and conservative management teams have just held the player back. I remain totally convinced that Branthwaite was ready to start for us every week when he went to PSV - and anyone who disagrees needs to remember that we had Connor Cody playing instead of him that year!
