Getting the best out of Jelavic

If he stays at the club under Martinez he will get 20 goals for us next season.

His dip in form was down to the worst of Moyes. Under Martinez he'll be ace again.

Bookmark this. I knows I'm right.

I cant see it mate he's a flash in the pan, but do giz us some green rep as some web slinging Redcoat has blind sighted me

We need to play to his strengths. Early balls across the deck for him to run onto is what he thrives on. None of this running the channels or hoofing up to him. He's better when he doesn't have to think, in the same way that Anichebe is better with his back to goal.

Cater to his strengths and he'll score. Don't, and he'll look lost.

thats a total myth mate if he was such a godlike "slotter" why did he totally **** up that chance against Southampton, ball on a plate and he completely ****s it up, same at chelsea and I can recount another 1 or so occasions that were similiar but cant remember the teams but still it was on a plate and he flapped, no channels no felliani nothing I would rather we build a team to play to a top clas striker/wingers game than an SPL player who had 4 good months or so ffs

Disagree. Of the 2 or more chances you mentioned there, there was a lot more (last season, admittedly) that he did/would've slotted. As for an excuse for missing them chances, all I can offer is his confidence is/was shattered last season. Not as much a valid excuse as some would take, but relevant (especially for a striker) nonetheless.

I never said he was 'God-like', merely that we weren't playing to his strengths. If you do that, he'll net. His confidence will bloom and he'll look twice the player he was. As much as that's reducing it to 'simple psychology', it's very relevant IMO.

I reckon he'll be all fixed now after having a break and I imagine Martinez will not make his forwards do as much defensive donkey work as Moyles so it's heartbreaking to see how everyone wants a new CF in while we have the Boss Slotter and Big Vic in.
I just want some Mirallas type sex0rers and finally a decent playmaker.

Agreed. When he first signed his job was to find space in the box and hit the ball goalwards when it arrived at his feet (along the ground). A couple of times last season he mis-kicked when the ball came across at shin height and there were a few other chances that he should really have put away. He's not the greatest technical player but if his confidence was higher he would have relaxed and he would have connected with the ball without over-thinking it.

His main asset is that he knows how to find space in the box- that's footballing intelligence rather than footballing ability. If he's asked to do more work outside the box or the ball doesn't arrive at his feet while he's in space inside the box then he's not going to be very effective. Moyes could have played to his strengths more rather than trying to develop him into a 'defend from the front' target man.

people talk as if we have fernando torres he's an SPL player who had a good few months then when full season started like cisse he flopped he would be croatia's main man if he was any good not their 3rd/4th choice striker if we could get £6 mil for him sell and reinvest in someone like bony

We couldn't get £6million for him at the moment. Who would pay that after his last 6 months?

who would of paid £12 mil rising to £17 mil for rodwell? or £13 mil for AJ? teams with cash to spend often spend silly money if the said target has shown they have potential/can score goals we will have his good couple of months form as a bargaining tool of "look he can get you 15 goals for £6 mil" but if we keep hold of him and he flops again then 2 full seasons of failure will make him next to worthless get rid now
