Getting the best out of Jelavic

Right. I don't think this will happen, nor would i want it to happen, but what would people accept if a club decide to bid for him?

I take it back about him not being that technically gifted. Nearly all his goals in that compilation were first time finishes, where most other strikers would have taken a touch. That's a skill in itself.

Interesting write-up from EB.

I agree that we've been aiming the ball at Fellaini in the air rather than playing it on the deck to Jelavic. If Felli does leave it could spark a resurgence for Jela, as Martinez is unlikely to bring another big man in up front.

BLF is the NEGATRON

I'd love to see him rediscover his form but I fear if he's still here come September and performing the way he was last season then he'll be worth next to nothing. I think we could still get £4-5m for him this summer if we sold him to some Europa League team or something.

It's much, much more difficult to be sharp around the box when you're physically and mentally fecked

I really hope that is the case mate but personally I've began to think that the player we saw last season was the true Jelavic and the one we had for half of the 11/12 season was just on very good form and took the league by surprise. Now they know what he's all about they're getting a lot closer to him and he's not able to get into that pocket of space anymore to get away from a defender and get his shot away.

If he stays then I hope I'm wrong.

I think the true player is somewhere in between the two. We payed 5 mill which is buttons really and that's what we'd get back IMO.

I think it's worth gambling to see if the player in the middle of those two extremes is worth having. I reckon he could be.

Couldn't argue with anyone if we got rid. He was awful last year.

I do think that the injury agaisnt Newcastle is part of the cause . First bit of the season he was doing well and the game at home agaisnt southampton he scored like he did before . Then he knocked his knee and I think hes being a bit hasty since . If hes not improved by January then get rid but I do think with a months rest and no international games he should be regenerised . We should keep some money for January incase we need to buy a bony which would improve our season unlike what happened this season

I can't believe people think the tactics required to get the best out of Jelavic are basically 'goal hang'.

Last season's dip in form had a lot more to do with Jelavic himself than it did Moyes tactics. His anticipation had deserted him, as had his all round game. We can hold onto the hope that his half a season scoring spree wasn't just a flash in the pan but the reality is it probably was.

This is spot on IMO.

I see absolutely no point in keeping jelavic IF we sign another striker. And by that I mean a good one who's cost some real money (bony etc). I think it's very naive to think that either moyes changed tactics and made jelavic play differently which then ruined his game or fellaini being up there turned jelavic into a league 1 striker!

Defenders sussed him out. Maybe fellaini being up there had a slight affect, which over the course of a season may of cost jelavic a few goals BUT certainly not to the extent that he performed last season. There was also numerous times fellaini did not play up there and jelavic was still rubbish.

On form he can clearly slot, the PL is a tough league for strikers and your not gonna be on form all the time. You have to be able to offer something else when ur not on form, unfortunately jelavic does not!

I have faith he will come good, he lost his mojo last season. He will find it again. He is a traditional goal poacher who plays on instinct, he has gone on a barren run. Maybe a niggling injury, or something else behind the scenes has upset him.

I'm prepared to be vaulted on this, I believe in you Nikica.

Watching that has made me believe in him again!

You can bet that Martinez will try everything he can to get Jelavic confident again. The summer break and new manager should do him the world of good.
