Getting the best out of Jelavic

If he is used as a poacher by Martinez instead of the first line of defence as he was for Moyes then he will score goals.

It's no coincidence he slotted for fun when he first arrived and then didn't when Moyes got his claws into him.

In short, he needs to be used as a focal point striker, not a channel runner. You don't score the type of goals he did or make that sort of movement and lose that talent completely overnight.

This is about right for me. I wouldn't blame Moyes completely but what he demands from strikers isn't always conducive to goals.

Jelavic will benefit from having a player alongside or behind him who can pull centre backs out of shape and who can see a pass. He will need to save his energy and sharpness to get the yard on people and slot.

He's neither a target man nor a grafter and we don't need him to be.

He needs a pacy link up man or something, There is no way Jelavic is going to out run any defender in this league, He'd be great with a little pacy striker or something with these 1-2s cause he's got decent technique and awareness.

Either giving him lessons to stay on his feet. Or sell him to Bolton for 3.5 million.

David Moyes doesn´t have a clue on how to coach strikers. Every single striker he´s managed has deteriorated, except perhaps for Anichebe but any progress that lad´s made is more due to coming of age than DM.

I think it´s 50-50 if we´ll get to see Jelavic come back to any sort of form, but I think if anyone can bring the best out of him it´s Roberto.

We will soon see if that is the case with Moyes at Man u.

Right. The only thing we want from him is to be the last man to touch the ball in the box. If he´s given that license he´ll score loads.

He doesn't need to. It's not like he'll be running onto through balls every five minutes.

He's turned uber gash. But put the ball on his foot in the box and he'll score. Swerve running the channels and that.

He needs an early ball - we overplayed it to death to his detriment last season.

Agreed.

For Jelavic the ultimate situation is propably recieving a cut back from a wide player (Baines, Pienaar, Mirallas) while getting away from his marker at the end of a counter attack. Then he can apply his messianic first touch finish and put the ball in the back of the net.

Villa second game last season. Fantastic finish

We need a door unlocker, ive said this for months, but people dont listen to me D, why dont they listen to me?

Door unlocker, sitting in midfield, unlocking doors, Jela, upfront, boss slotting, simples.

Early ball - he's offside. Other varieties of ball into him he handles like a grenade about to go off.
