That seems to be more in line with my thinking...

The argument could be made about a young generation of white people in certain countries who are in an ethnic minority.

But i think it depends more on their personal circumstances.
For clarification, I 100% believe that the issues in america are born out of racism. The point I was trying to make is that using stats to question why blacks appear to commit more crime is flawed, based on generations of social inequality, fuelled by historic racist views.

As a scouser, we still get stereotyped as thieves and scroungers. Any evidence that crime rates are higher in Liverpool is not because scousers are more predisposed to being that way, but because of decades of social deprivation.

"You should understand"

Why dont you sit back, watch whats happening and listen to other peoples views?

Its always good to have a balanced discussion...

Thanks...all life experiences :)

Ive seen some weird and wonderful stuff in my time.

Should probably write a novel
Seen some of your experiences in the dating thread - forgive me if I say that I’ll not be putting down a pre-order lol

Very much this.

Add in that the pandemic is disproportionately effecting black communities (in the US) due to the negative impacts on social determinants of health that are a product of institution racism.

This (in part) is really interesting...

1: You have the virus smashing the US economy

2: You have people looking forward and coming back to work + ready to go to stores / socialise...but suddenly they arent able to due to the current climate.

3: Local small/medium and large corprate businesses are destroyed / looted.

4: General population now living in a different environment and 'not in the mood' to go and shop (if stores are intact') socialise (fear of virus or dangerous environment)

5: As this all continues there will be furtheŕ economic suffering.

6: The virus will continue to pass from person to person with many ignoring social distancing.

7: Expensive healthcare and loss of employment will be huge concerns for low income families.

Where will the US economy be in 2021...

If it crashes (as expected) wont the wealthy be purchasing more real estate + stocks etc and creating an even larger class divide...

Wont the liquid middle classes do the same...

Apply this concept, times 100, to black people living in America, and that's why we are where we are today

I am going to be cup half full.

At least no one in here is explicitly being racist or saying sod the poor people.

yep it’s a dance that requires skill. Prev got one pulling a few aggressive lime dance manoeuvres in a break dance competition.

Apologies maybe I did not express myself properly.. What I was trying to say was if you have had all these terrible things happen to you based on the colour of your skin then you would be able to understand and empathise, certainly more than I can as a white person because I have never had those experiences, with the anger that black people are feeling right now. Or do you not think your experiences are comparable?

But ultimately racism will never end until the day comes when we stop cherry picking what we categorise things by race by.

I just find it hypocritical when people are saying "everyone is equal" then the next minute "if you're white then your opinion is less valid on this subject"

That to me is the definition of racism regardless of the context.

I see the kernel of truth in what you’re getting at in terms of division between groups, and I wouldn’t describe your opinion as being less ‘valid’. But maybe ‘less informed by a lived experience’.

@mill ‘s analogy is a good one, that I wouldnt feel well placed to talk to women about the physical and mental implications of having an abortion, there’s simply people with different life experiences who can better talk about it than me.

When you hear black people talk about directly experiencing racist abuse, or more systemic stuff like getting pulled over by the cops 4 or 5 times every year without fail, or getting followed around a shop by security. I have to think their lived experience gives an insight into race relations which I just dont have.

I think you’re right to want to get to a place where race, religion etc don’t matter in our dealings with each other, but we can’t get there from here.

I've just seen Obama is going to address the nation at 10pm UK time.

I'll certainly be tuning in. He tends to be rather inspiring.

His drone strikes have murdered countless civilians so he should be an expert on this matter. Can’t wait.
