Gana Gueye and Morgan Schneiderlin

I've stated on numerous occasions that Schneiderlin is a very decent player, but that we have midfielders falling out of cupboards at this club and his purchase was wasteful when we needed to sign another striker first.

...but dont let the truth spoil a good rant eh?
Our midfield looks better with him in it. Of course I'm generalising here, but one thing I'd say his arrival isn't, is wasteful.

Don't think Barry cares too much about the record anyway

Doesn't seem like it no, but surely he doesn't consider his career to be over either? He has been in good form this season and surely should be able to press for starting at least until the end of the season. Here's hoping he does it even more.

Also: Here's a moment of silence for the future Everton FC captaincy of James Mccarthy.

I think he's realistic enough to know he's now a back up.

Well surely he won't just accept that without a fight! Between Barry, Barkley, McCarthy, Besic, Gana, Schniderman and Davies he certainly has to rate himself as among the top half of the lot.

Either way, I'm chuffed about our midfield and feel like it might just be the best lineup of central mids that we've ever had in my time supporting EFC

It's completely sound analysis. If you think he's a player that is suited to a defensive midfield role then that is your lookout. Look at his game. Look where he is on the pitch and look at what he contributes. He intercepts and tackles well up the pitch. I'd say those defensive duties are carried out typically in the centre circle. If opponents can escape Schneiderlin at that point and get forward in numbers we are in trouble with Gueye to beat and then they're bearing down on our back four.

I accept that's a midfield gamble that Koeman makes. My point is that we WILL be caught out by it when playing teams with managers and players capable of exploiting that. Against such teams I'd go with Gueye and McCarthy.

You do know that he was staying further back than Gueye nearly the whole match don't you?!

He was the perfect DM protective screen for our defence.

Lord knows what you were watching.

Can stick my hand up and admit I didn't know how good Scheiderlin was. Ya he was highly regarded etc but I hadn't actually looked out for him before. Man I was amazed at his sheer ease he keeps hold the ball, creates space and is always available for the pass... let alone the fact that we probably now have 2 of the premier leagues most effective ball winners..

Add Davies into the mix.. sort out the roles clearly and we have a heck of a midfield..

I do feel it's not 100% yet though. Gueye doesn't appear a natural around the opposition box, unlike Davies who is clearly born to be the box to box type with goals in him. I do wonder if Gueye should stay further back and allow Scheids to wonder more forward where he can make more key passes.

Sure the boss knows best.

after watching the RS and knowing their central midfield choices of henderson, wijnaldum, can and i dunno, lallana? cost about £85m in transfer fees alone, never mind the atsronomical wages.

Yet we have schneiderlin, gueye, davies and barkley as our equivilent for a 3rd of the price, it just goes to show how good we've done in the last few years. Especially with mccarthy, barry and besic as backup, all very very capable players.
