Game Of Thrones: Season 8

After watching that I'm actually enjoying this Thatcher documentary on bbc2. Yes the bar has been set that low tonight.

I actually enjoyed that and while I am let down at how they've rushed the series, the episodes have been enjoyable even if not been happy with them and the story progression etc. Its only predictable because of the massive clues they have done this series. If you had said after series 6 that it would all go this way, it would have seemed more shocking. Unfortunately, they have made each big thing massively obvious during this season by very unsubtle foreshadowing. IMO that was GRRMs influence on previous series with the subtle hints that made it good. Without him, they have lost the intricacy.

tbh the Dany "transformation" is the one bit of season 8 that does make sense - shes been like this for ages, including after Drogo's death:

Her transformation has been happening since she found confidence while married to Khal Drogo and has been shown since then (from even before the books ran out) She watches happily as her brother has his brain melted. When she rocks up at Qarth in series 2 she says they will be the first city to be burnt if they don’t let them in. It’s been there for a long time.

Yes it has been rushed in the final season and that is a problem. But it’s not as though it’s exactly a surprise. She’s been burning people that oppose her for ages now.

Don’t get me wrong this has been a rushed season that is below the standards of the previous ones. But I don’t buy into the talk that loads of characters are acting differently and that’s ruined their arcs from the previous seasons. They’ve moved too quickly in certain storylines which is a result of the writers/producers/actors wanting to finish it. But I think the way it has finished largely makes sense with a TV show you are trying to finish off with no loose ends.

Thought that was terrible to be honest.

Start was decent, awful middle, end was actually okay. My issue is that we could have had that ending without the awful middle.

Gendry turns out to be the most pointless character in the entire thing, Bronn the most pointless in this season.

I thought the Drogon scene was good, and the hand of the king bit, but yeah, absolutely dire. Also, the wall is back up?

Never known a series so good to go so bad. This is way beyond Lost levels.
