I dont know how I feel.
GOT was always about being a surprise and keeping you on your toes. I think it did that and even though it isnt maybe the ending we all wanted or thought of it was a bit of a surprise.
There’s surprises which have some logical grounding- the red wedding and Ned’s execution are perfect examples of this. They were shocking moments but when you look back you can trace a clear course of action that led to those moments.
The “surprises” this season have been shocks because they are borne from lazy, uninspired, illogical writing- otherwise known by defenders of the show as “subverting expectations”. This image sums it up for me.
