Farhad Moshiri: Ronald Koeman Statement

Can't be surprised with fan impatience when you reek of short termism.

Moyes and Martinez got more patience because of the situation they had. Moyes took over us when we were consistently near bottom - his target at the beginning was to avoid relegation and maybe push us forward. And he did, so we showed loyalty even when he couldn't push us past the glass ceiling.

Martinez took over from Moyes, when there was certainly a fear that losing Moyes would cause us to slip due to lack of investment. Martinez's positivity in the first year, coupled with attacking play, young players, and embracing of the club won him some spare time when the results went south (with the fans).

Koeman has come in when we expect top 7 and want to push above. Moshiri came in saying we had the money to compete. Koeman has bought a large number of players for the now, he has a 3 year contract and there has been very little implied about him 'building something'. He was brought in to steady a sinking ship and give us a platform to build something. Or at least that was the implication. He was a 'professional' that was honest and was going to raise our profile and make us run like professionals.

That narrative offers him very little cover when things go bad. Martinez had excuses - money, building from the youth, long term plans, etc.

Moyes had excuses - mostly money, but also he actually raised us a level before hitting a glass ceiling.

Koeman has left himself no excuses - he simply has to produce. And outside of Lukaku and Barkley going berserk after the injection of Tom Davies into the squad last winter...I don't see where the production is coming from.

Koeman has appeared to want to keep Everton at arm's length for his tenure. Should anyone be surprised that the fans turn especially quickly in that circumstance?

Fantastic post and well agree with the idea in the first paragraph

Moshiri is a speculator. Our net spend approx 50 million, about 15 million more than Burnley. The Barkley debacle at the 11th hour of deadline day would have brought in 35 mil which would have put us approx equal spends as Burnley. So I dont understand how the `accountant` holding the purse strings could be so suprised that Burnley beat us at home and then issues a statement supporting the manager whom he let down by not getting the integral players in that the manager asked for ................ Koeman been sold a pup we are sell to buy That said he should be doing better ...............

Moshiri, like Trump, needs to be kept far, far, far away from any means of direct communication with the public. He seriously needs to be filtered/censored and basically socially managed.
Hopefully, somewhere behind the scenes, the board are sending a very strong message to the Koeman bros. Turn this around soon, or you're both biking a tandem back to the land of tulips!
Like I have said before in posts, sometimes the results do go as expected, sure, the bookies will tell you the odds, but there was no mention of the poor manner in which we approached and played those games. Just because the odds are against you, does not mean you give up.
Losing a game does not bother me as much as watching a team with no winning mentality, (and I utterly HATE it when we lose).
So far this season, I have seen absolutely no evidence of that ambition. If we fans demand it, then by the man's own words, so should the board.

There is no need at all for Moshiri to be heard from concerning Everton matters. If he does wish to communicate, then some media is more appropriate than others.

I would have thought someone in his position wouldn't indulge Jim White at all, and if we had sufficiently professional people running communications at the club, it would be unnecessary for him to act as spokesman and he would easily be persuaded in seeing the benefits of not doing so.

Moshiri is Top Man at Everton. When he speaks or gives an interview and makes a hash of it, it can't be put down to a mere employee speaking out of turn or a player giving an interview on international break being lost in translation. It can't be rectified easily. His comments today probably do not cause huge damage as our exposure is limited, but it's another brick taken out of the wall for Everton. We lose credibility when our majority shareholder classifies matches into those we can win and those we cannot. That learned hopelessness seeps through the entire club.

If he wanted to talk to fans, then an appropriate forum would be a sit-down exclusive interview with one of the broadsheet football journalists. The time to do that was shortly after his arrival and its something that could have been vetted and edited in advance of publication, to ensure the right tone and content. Phone-in type interviews where he can be exposed and has to respond on his feet are totally inappropriate.

I am at a complete loss to understand whatever advice he has been given that Jim White is ok for this. Moshiri is royalty in Everton terms, and it belittles the stature of the club talking to a tabloid hack. I wouldn't have seen any bar to Moshiri revamping the communications department on his arrival, but sadly, he would appear to think it is unnecessary.

We still have a lot of good things to say about the club and much more positive interest could be generated. Seems like another lost opportunity at present.

A really poorly thought out statement from Moshiri.

Farhad Moshiri: "We are in a bad moment but we have played 4 title contenders, 3 away from home. Today [Burnley] was the only unexpected loss.

The implication that we expect to lose against anyone in the top 4 just hammers home the point that we aren't capable of competing with them.

"The 4 pre-qualifying UEFA games and 2 group games on Thursdays haven't helped. There is mental and physical fatigue and 7 injuries."

Playing the fatigue and injury card in October. Jesus. We have a relatively big squad, to the point where we had Rooney, Klassen, Lookman and Tom Davies on the bench on Sunday. This is no excuse.

I could forgive him for saying that, for example, the team still needs a bit of time to gel but they need to work hard to start turning it around very quickly, but this just wreaks of excuse making.
