Farhad Moshiri: Ronald Koeman Statement

Last season was all about improvement from Martinez. You look at the teams who finished above us - RS, City, Utd, Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal. Could you compare their squad to ours? 7th was just what we deserved tbh.

Alright, the crowd wants to win games. I want nothing else. I'm also not absolving Koeman from his share of criticism. What I have a problem with is thinking its all his fault.

You mentioned why our midfielders don't close down attacks. I ask the same question but I don't believe it has anything to do with Koeman's tactics. Both Gana and Schneiderlin were miles better than now. Surely one has to question them too. Williams has been shocking. And as he gets more shocking we get injuries to our other 2 CBs as well. The blame attached to Koeman in my view is signing so many no 10s. You give 9 new signings to the best of teams even they will struggle.

We lost Coleman, never replaced him. That can be blamed on Koeman. Martina is not the answer and we have conceded alot from RB area so far.

We lost Lukaku, never replaced him. Here I believe our board and Walsh are to blame. Cos my understanding is Koeman wanted more strikers in. We lost Kone, Lukaku and Niasse was banished. One Sandro was not gonna be enough.

Same for the defender area.

Notice nothing said about Moshiri and losing games to championship contenders.

Fine faddy, but no mention of Mosh comment okay to loose to championship contenders.

Our dismal Europa outings, can you see us getting to the knockout stages?

No mention of the work in progress or project if you like.

Do you really think that the signings would have been done without Koeman's approval? I do not so a great deal of blame does lie with him. As for tactics ans team selections many folk on various websites point to this.

BTW in the Daily Flail, Chris Sutton stated Koeman should go!!!!!!!!

I wonder how much more it will take before you to question Koeman remaining.

At least the hare had been raised now.

The national press has latched on to this crisis and Moshiri has been forced to both acknowledge it and address it.

Previously it had been confined to a bunch of gobby buggers angrily battering away at our touchpads

I phone my posts in and someone else writes them out for me.

It's a bit like Koeman at Everton

Can't be surprised with fan impatience when you reek of short termism.

Moyes and Martinez got more patience because of the situation they had. Moyes took over us when we were consistently near bottom - his target at the beginning was to avoid relegation and maybe push us forward. And he did, so we showed loyalty even when he couldn't push us past the glass ceiling.

Martinez took over from Moyes, when there was certainly a fear that losing Moyes would cause us to slip due to lack of investment. Martinez's positivity in the first year, coupled with attacking play, young players, and embracing of the club won him some spare time when the results went south (with the fans).

Koeman has come in when we expect top 7 and want to push above. Moshiri came in saying we had the money to compete. Koeman has bought a large number of players for the now, he has a 3 year contract and there has been very little implied about him 'building something'. He was brought in to steady a sinking ship and give us a platform to build something. Or at least that was the implication. He was a 'professional' that was honest and was going to raise our profile and make us run like professionals.

That narrative offers him very little cover when things go bad. Martinez had excuses - money, building from the youth, long term plans, etc.

Moyes had excuses - mostly money, but also he actually raised us a level before hitting a glass ceiling.

Koeman has left himself no excuses - he simply has to produce. And outside of Lukaku and Barkley going berserk after the injection of Tom Davies into the squad last winter...I don't see where the production is coming from.

Koeman has appeared to want to keep Everton at arm's length for his tenure. Should anyone be surprised that the fans turn especially quickly in that circumstance?

Its not OK to lose to championship contenders. You see shocking results everynow and then in the league. Burnley winning at Chelsea away is one example. This is what the PL is now. Its no longer the 2000s. I read Mosh's statement and he said the Burnley game was the first unexpected result. He also said he understands what thw fans' expectations are and won't let them down.

You gotta think from Mosh's perspective as well. He has bought a club, invested 200M + in transfers, is getting a stadium ready as well. He got a manager with a strong character which was the need of the hour. He's on a 3 year deal cos neither Koeman is sure about the future nor do we want to make the mistake of offering him a new deal like Bobby. He cannot sack managers the moment things go south. He is no Abramovic for who money grows on trees or Man City Sheikhs. We can't afford so big losses on players and managers esp the stadium in mind. Projects have their ups and down. There are times things don't go as per existing plan. You face difficulties to overcome them and that is when leadership has a role. Either they show patience and smoothen things or they decide to totally change the approach. The latter is alwats a risk. I think that is what Mosh seems to think too. He will make a decision once he is convinced Koeman is not the man. I trust him with that.

The back to back defeats and the utter gash quality of football played against Chelsea, Atlanta and Spurs without scoring goals or creating enough chances has drained us of any confidence - so much that we looked vulnerable vs Bournemouth and are so brittle mentally that Limasoll seemed like Real Madrid. Sometimes its the players' fault as well. Newcomers in a team slowly take confidence when the team's existing experienced players play well around them. We're seeing none of that. Hence newcomers in a new country or our youngsters have the weight on their shoulders to perform and win us games.

How many games did DCL play last season and how many goals did he get? Now he is being expected to score a brace every week. Our main culprit is defence and midfield. Because you can get a goal in the game and win 1-0 or 2-0 but if you concede early in every match then it becomes an uphill task all the time.

About Koeman, I am questioning his tactics 100% and some of his team selection. I wanted him to give Kenny a chance and he did, wanted him to drop Rooney and he did, wanted him to play with pace up top and in the last game he did. I thought Schnides was poor 1st half and he got subbed at 60 mins. Tough times these but I see us go 2 step backwards more if we see him sacked now. Unless Mosh has lined up a better proven manager (not Mazzari), I say we back the team and let Koeman do his job. At the end of the season everyone can reassess him. The board just in case should be quietly looking at alternate options for the future.
