FA Cup Final: Everton vs Chelsea

Personally....

We are one big world calss player from winning these types of games.

Hibbert and Osman arent good enough for the top level.

We arent that far away.

If we had Arteta he would have made a difference, he would have created SOMETHING.
If we had Yakubu he would have scored.
If we had Jags he would have covered Drogba.

So then we just to get rid of Hibbert and Osman from the team. Who can both perform against the lesser clubs, but are found out when we play the elite.

Just got back from London.

Gutted really, we lost to the better side. After Saha scored we never really threatened again which was a shame as Cech did flap at a few things. The defending for both Chelsea goals was poor especially sicne our defence has been very good for a large part of the season.

Great support though, ruined only by some guy who got up to go the bogs about 4 times during each half. Great seats as well.

Said that about Osman for some time now.

Osman was as anonymous as expected - his complete lack of attempt to stop the cross for their equaliser didn't half irritate me. He just stood there and put up a lazy foot allowing the cross. Then when the cross come in, its equally unforgivable for Drogba to have an unchallenged header 6 yards out. When a winger picks the ball up, centre backs should be instantly looking for their biggest aerial threat...

Osmans a squad player, not a player who should be starting week in, week out.

Was also massively disappointed with Cahill. Was expecting a performance from him after his semi final...

A final appearance is a good indicator of things moving in the right direction though. Its an experience for the lads.

At the end of the day, we had a good run, but we weren't good enough on the day. Not one player stood out for me.

Every single bloody time we play Chelsea, we give Lampard so much space on the edge of the box? Are we stupid? We all know what he is going to do. And there was just no excuse for the first goal. Awful defending all round.

We were only ever going to win that game 1-0. And as soon as Chelsea scored, I couldn't see us getting back in to it.

Oh well. Great season none the less. Unlucky blue boys.

I can't recall walking away from a match thinking an opposing side deserved to beat us.
I have always thought Tony Hibbert was our best right back but He has been found out several times this season, notably yesterday, against Villa and against Man City, where Hughes deployed Robinho to be on Hibbert's case.
Osman is too lightweight and doesn't seem to get involved as much as Pienaar on the opposite flank.
We can be so predictable in our play, but seem to invite opposing sides to come at us,giving them too much time and space.
Then when we have the ball, are closed down so the inevitable hump up the field to a lazy french prima donna or Fellaini to nod down or get rid as soon as.
We didn't turn up yesterday and after the semi euphoria, was a let down.
All said We have had a good season but the frustrating thing is we cant go any further than we are at the moment without any big investment.
Another coincidence was We are now the 5th team to beat Boro in the quarter finals,go on to the final and the 5th team to beaten in the final.

I completely agree with that.

Also, this game was imo all down to Hibbert and Osman on the right. They both did nothing really. Hibbert got ripped apart, and if you looked at how much Cahill/Pienaar were chasing the ball, compared to Osman - well he wasnt good at all.

If my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle but you don't see me complaining.
Truth is all three of those might have made a difference but you don't know that, if yak had started instead of saha, saha wouldnt have scored after 25 seconds and we wouldnt have had a lead to defend in the first place, who knows what might have happened.

And what did we win with them players? Exactly.

Its nice to think we would of won if they had played but no one can say for definate that we would of, and hell we might not even of got this far if they had been fit all season.

All ifs and buts really right now. Fact is we didn't win it and that sucks but we are getting closer and closer.

Just hope we can keep going and finally beat that last hurdle rather than this being our peak.

We just need the quality and belief to beat the Chelseas of this world, and yesterday we had neither.

Onwards and upwards!

I agree, but will we see that at Goodison next year? Will we see any big name signings? Not at all, because we have no money. What was so utterly saddening when we were knocked out is the steady realisation with takeovers at Sunderland, Portsmouth, Man City, Villa, Chelsea, Liverpool and United, not to mention the money at Spurs and Arsenal, how can we compete? If our hopes are resting on keeping David Moyes tied to the sinking ship and signing one world class player, what is our hope if neither are achieveable objectives? Next season will be a painfully long hard slog and considering we will start without Arteta, Yakubu and Jagielka, it will be just as tough as this season's rubbish start.
Look out for a "watch this space", maybe we'll get Jacobsen and Stephen Hunt.
I am just so sad right now, because the sight of 30,000 Evertonians absolutely unequivocally drowning out the Chelsea lot, streaming down Wembley Way was unbelieveably inspiring...and I fear the greatest chance we'll have of showing up there again will be for a play off final.

Better team won, bit gutted that we didnt show up more but thats how it is.

Not going to point fingers as its churlish and the boys in blue have gave me some ace moments this year.

Well done Chelsea.

Spot on Chico, as usual.

I went to see the beamback in the end - won't be doing it again. I know it's free like but the picture was poor and the screens on the other side of the pitch...difficult to see. Anyone else there?

As for the game - the early goal unsettled us far more than them - not in the game plan.

Their response was very composed - hats off to them. Lampard wasn't rubbish (whoever said that on an earlier post). Made the first goal with his pass out left and scored the second. He's hurt us a lot in recent years - always from distance. We should have closed him down....

So the best team won - well played Chelsea. Hope we learn from this and up our game on the big occasions - not just for Liverpool.

Still proud, still pleased with our progress - well done lads and well done David Moyes.

Ever since Arteta went out and we found our form, our only real supply line had been down the left with Baines and Pienaar. I had been wondering for weeks why other teams hadn't worked harder to bottle up the left side supply.

Well, Chelsea saw the problem presented to them and addressed it nicely. I can't think of any good give and take between Baines and Pienaar all match so fair play to Chelsea and Hiddink. Well read.

Now, how do we respond? The summer shall tell. Will we find a right side? Will Arteta come back as himself? Will we find him some help for him in the middle? For me, the improvement must come in the midfield.

Beaten by the better team. Although we didnt help ourselves one bit. Despite the goal, which Pienaar was offside for, we offered nothing. Reminded me of the semi second leg against them at home last year. Ultimately very disappointing, roll on next year with the bug guns back!

Ah well boys never mind aye?

Great day out, got to have two Wembley days in the sun after finishing fifth in what looked to be a miserable season for a while. Beaten by a superior side, who were practically full strength, creating a little history in the process and outsinging the opposition support.

As gutting as it was that this group of players didn't get the trophy they deserved for their hard work getting to the final, it's hard to be too downhearted.

Here's to next season, genuinely looking forward to it now.
