I have to say El Zato, for you, this is impressive humour

We shouldn't forget that Man Utd and LPool have had 7th and 8th place finishes respectively in recent years. An absolute disaster for clubs with comparative advantages and resources infinitely superior to ours. Utd are still struggling to transition successfully from Ferguson four seasons on.

After years of eventually boring stability under Moyes, the relatively short Martinez interlude and unravelling of that stability over the last two years has come as a bigger shock than we thought I think.

We're in a period of profound change at the club that is really only beginning. You would like to get a sense from Koeman that he feels Everton is the be all and end all for him but perhaps that just isn't his way. People are still getting used to working with each other on and off the field. I expect he did learn last week from the discontent about his Lukaku comments. We are not Southampton and we rightly expect far more here. A shot across the bow from fans does no harm.

For me, he needs to work on getting more from the players until we can do something concrete to address it in January. If that's proving difficult then so be it but he is paid handsomely to find solutions. I think he has inherited a bloody mess though so I don't underestimate his task at all.

Everything feels flat and stale with the squad. If he is off playing golf etc then he is entitled to his free time but I do think he needs to be very cognisant of his public comments and be "seen" to be trying to address the issues. That is probably a trifle unfair but everything is under the microscope at present and I'm actually surprised with the degree of scrutiny on him already.

But I accept that the attitude of the players, their sluggishness, apparent lack of passion and commitment, still rests on Koeman to fix. If he can't then we hope we can spend enough in January and the summer.

Baines and Williams have summed it up with their comments mate.

They all like the manager and enjoy working under him, the team need to kick themselves as well now.

Again, I'm not saying Koeman is blameless. He needs to be a bit more pro-active perhaps, and change 'something' in order to get that reaction.

Of all the issues that could have arisen post-Moyes, I never thought that a significant decline in the technical standard of footballer would be one of them.

None of the better players of the past era have been replaced like for like. Pienaar, Arteta, Osman and Fellaini might have been chronically slow, but they killed the ball and passed it every time it came to them, which to me is the bare minimum you expect from a professional.
