Oporto are consistantly playing in CL and frequently getting into QF. Quality side. Furthermore, possession football is second nature to Latin footballers in general. They grow up playing it. We've been playing it for 12 months. Stop fretting.

You need the quality though. When we pressed Porto they just popped it around and played through us. When they pressed us it just went back to Roebels to kick.

We where much better with Besic, Stones and McCarthy. Ok so Porto might have been letting us play a bit more but I think games like this still show who can comfortably play this style and who can't.

I hope Stones starts instead of Jags and Besic starts instead of Barry.

What game where you watching and yes all those players I listed a part from Baines are 32 or over. Time catches up to everyone. Look at Stevie G but you're obviously someone who just ignores what you don't want to see so that's fine. Go ahead and live in your delusional little world.

If we had our first team playing we might have given them a game and I think that would have been better preparation than running around admiring how good Porto are.

Besic looks a 30m pound player and he's only 21.

That's a better, more reasonable, post, nice one.

FFS...you just killed my internet.

I think people need to relax.

Do people honestly believe we are a bad side overnight? It's a training game. People want to get match fitness without pushing to hard and picking up a strain/knock.

The flip side being don't read too much into besic's performance. He'll still need time to adapt so we shouldn't expect too much.

Only pre season i know but we were poor today.
Fitness is the main reason we have these games but we also need to get back up to speed with the passing game, training is all well and good but its against opposition were we will learn most.
These games are also a chance for squad players to shine and today hibbo looked like a pub player, alcaraz is not good enough and apart from the last 10 minutes mcgeady was shocking.
Plus points ross, besic and jags for me.
We need a quality winger in,a back up striker and a playmaker.

Martinez authorised signing Barry, he's hardly finished. Baines & Jags are England first-team regulars (ok, not saying much...but they're not finished either).

Naismith is good enough.

Agree with you that Osman, Hibbo and Peanut are past their effective best. Alcarez is too cumbersome. Geads is a possible supersub but no first-teamer.

I was delighted when we loaned Barry and appalled when we resigned him especially due to the length of the contract. I thought the signs last season where there towards the end but hopefully you're right.

I said maybe to Jags and Baines. I thought both where poor by their standard seasons and the main reason we went on the long winning run was the injury to Jags but they still have a season or two left, maybe just not as guaranteed starters.

Naismith isn't good enough playing as a lone striker but if we need a goal could do a job in a front 2. His touch isn't good enough to be a No10.
