Well Danny Ings doesn't play for us so it's not that surprising that there's less chatter about him on an Everton forum, but actually the chatter that there is is almost exclusively people saying exactly what you're saying they're not. Just ask poor foreverblue, who has advocated signing him and had a barrage of people laughing at him because he's a one season wonder.

I feel like you're still not getting the point but I genuinely don't know how I can make it any clearer. Scoring in gluts isn't being used as evidence that he can't do it long term. I've literally just explained that to you. If he'd scored 15 goals in 3 consecutive seasons but got them all in gluts it would be fine, you'd still say he was likely to get 15 the next season. But he hasn't, he has only scored in ONE glut. It's like us still saying that Jelavic and Andy Johnson were 30 goal a season strikers. They weren't. They were players who had short bursts of exceptional form but couldn't keep it up long term. It is possible that DCL will be another, there isn't sufficient evidence for us to know that he can be relied upon for 15 goals next season. It's really that simple.

I think the key difference is Johnson and Jelavic have retired so we can view their whole career. Calvert Lewin is 23 and on an upward trajectory. We are speculating as to what he can do next season, but it's more likely than not he can maintain his performance level if you look at the evidence objectively, isnt it?

I like DCL , he brings a lot to the team , but I've not seen anything that tells me he is going to be a consistent goalscorer.

I'll make this my last reply because I'm turning this into the DCL thread. I think somehow you still haven't quite grasped it so i'm a bit stumped as to what to say. He is possibly on an upward trajectory. That's basically the whole point of the discussion, that he might not be. It is possible that rather than being a sign of an upward curve, he just had a good run which he will never/rarely repeat. If he was still scoring goals now then that would seem less likely, but as he didn't look like a goalscorer in the first third of the season, and hasn't in the final third of the season, it remains a distinct possibility that he just isn't one. I am willing to believe that he can do it, but i'd be lying if I said that him going 9 games without an involvement in a goal - with his previous record - didn't concern me.

Linked to Marc Roca

Different to the clogger as he can pass forward but not the same “energy” can tackle too.
They reference Sport.es but I guess their paper edition as there's no mention of Roca in any recent news on their site.

I don't think it's necessarily a case of being positive or negative to be honest. I'm with you, I'm willing to believe that he can keep improving and because we've got other areas which need addressing I wouldn't really be looking to improve there as a priority. I can understand why some people might think they've seen enough though. I would disagree with them, but i'd struggle to say with any conviction that they were wrong. I think there's sometimes a tendency to believe that you should act as if everyones great until they prove beyond doubt that they're not. Realistically it's not going to happen though. I was behind Silva and argued with people that he'd turn it round, but ultimately I was wrong and they were right. They weren't just negative or stupid or impatient, they had identified genuine issues and had no faith in him because of it. It may be that the same happens with DCL. I hope not, but i'm not going to knock people who don't think he's good enough because there's definitely a question mark.

All fair points mate. I'll always try and defend an Everton player / manager until the evidence is stacked heavily to the contrary. Before the lockdown I still thought Pickford had a chance of improving his performances and making it here, I’ve written him off now tho.

With DCL I just question the timing of all the criticism, a young player having his best season to date for me shouldn’t be the target of so much abuse. But I fully accept there are big question marks over his ability to be a consistent goal scorer over a prolonged period of time

The more the echo peddle this 3 signing nonsense the more I think they are just assuming.

I cant see the club not brining in a RB & CF in addition especially if Kenny & Tosun/Sandro leave this summer.

You also have LW in which I dont think Carlo rates either Bernard or Iwobi.

Think the CF situation all depends on Kean.

If we keep him I cant see us going after another
