Well I'm not sure EU officials have used the language of 'punishing' Britain for a start

Had a bit of time to help you out Bruce.

if you google ‘EU Britain must be punished’ the first 2 pages of hits pull up a fairly decent number of quotes from various EU officials.

I tried the same search on a work colleagues pc to make sure it wasn’t just a leavers pc it showed up on (he voted remain), the results were still there so you should get the same hits.

I understand that breaking ranks from the cult of remain is not allowed or you will be punished (see what I did there) but just because you don’t agree with something it does not make it untrue.

‘but its not a financial punishment.......’

ok

I dread to think what your Google history looks like.

I feel a deal will be done at the last day.......but the mild Barry Gardiner advocating civil unrest - Labour are doing themselves no favours there....... they are flummoxed whether what the PM has done rightly or wrong it's 4 days parliment will not sit added to all the party conferences.......

Mr. Gardiner did not advocate “civil unrest”.

He spoke of “civil disobedience” which is a whole nother civil.

You might approve of Johnson’s lies, Joe.

But please don’t insult our intelligence by posting your own disinformation.

your splitting hairs here-
Civil disobedience is the active, professed refusal of a citizen to obey certain laws, demands, orders or commands of a government or occupying international power. By some definitions, civil disobedience has to be nonviolent to be called 'civil'.

Well thankyou for this enlightenment, lesson on Google spidering....:hayee:
Down hill for mankind from now we have reached optimal intelligence.
Its a conspiracy, I tell you...

Are you being a Tory again, do as I say not what I do!?

No “splitting hairs” at all, Joe.

Civil disobedience is a time honoured, peaceable and legitimate way for the populace to show contempt for an authoritarian government acting outwith its purview.

That definition you post is entirely in keeping with that fact.

Here is another definition for you.

What is Civil Unrest?

Peaceful demonstrations and protests that abide by the law, such as the Women's March, do not constitute civil unrest. Civil unrest is typically defined by law enforcement as a gathering of three or more people, in reaction to an event, with the intention of causing a public disturbance in violation of the law. Civil unrest typically involves damage to property or injury to other people. Some examples of civil unrest incidents within the United States include:

The ERG clearly want a No Deal as does Farage. I'm not sure Johnson does. I don't think he's particularly bothered about Brexit. What he is bothered about is his reputation and legacy.

In my opinion, he's hoping the EU renegotiate for a 'better deal' in which case he can claim he's a hero or that he's stopped by Parliament, Judiciary or anyone so that he can shift the blame to someone else.

Yes I agree with all of that mate.

I'm not sure the No Deal Path ends well for them.

Splitting hairs - it may be encouraging to break the law - why not say peaceful demonstrations?
being disobedient ain't the answer.......
you got the cane for it when I was at school......

I'd actually looked at a few of those articles after your original post (before going into a meeting so couldn't explore further), and unless I missed it, the 'punishment' angle was inferred by the journalists. I couldn't see a direct quote from any EU official saying they wanted to punish Britain.

https://www.newstatesman.com/world/europe/2019/03/eu-torn-over-whether-punish-or-forgive-uk for instance has no mention of punishment.
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...-olaf-henkel-theresa-may-michel-a7848221.html and the only mention of punishment is from a German MEP, not from the EU negotiators themselves
https://news.sky.com/story/leaked-eu-document-shows-brexit-punishment-plan-11239487 has no mention of the EU wishing to punish Britain
https://www.businessinsider.com/eu-...-for-greek-fallacy-on-brexit-2019-1?r=US&IR=T has no talk from any EU official of punishing Britain

and so on. Plenty of talk from journalists about Britain being punished, but nothing from the EU, which was kinda your point wasn't it?

EU leaders I think was the suggestion.

Sadly it ends a lot better for them than it does for the vast majority of people in this country, catcher.

Farage, Rees Mogg, Banks and the rest are well insulated against any financial hardships you or me might be facing.
More than insulated, doesn't it positively improve their businesses?

I dread to think what your Google history looks like.

and why is that ? what do you think is in it ?

it seems that whenever a point is made in this thread by a leave voter and remain voters disagree with, subtle and not so subtle insults are thrown about.

all for a laugh and some good natured banter but some of you are bordering on abusive posts

Joe.....I always think that Confucius offers the best advice to a man in a hole.

Lay the spade aside and stop digging.

You tried to misrepresent Mr. Barry Gardiner’s comments and were set straight.

That’s the way we roll on here.
