Like who?

What sane country is going to try and leave the single market?

It would be wrong to think that the EU is loved by all the people, there are plenty of nationalist movements in European countries. I'm not saying next week x and x are leaving but you cannot say what will happen in 20 years time. Imho an EU superstate is doomed to fail and at that point it may revert back to something more like a trading block with tied in legislation to allow that to happen.

A country on the continent leaving or attempting to leave would have far more impact as we have always been distant outsiders.

no idea bud, I thought it was a bit tagged onto the 39 billion but Bruce and Jebus have very kindly pointed out the error of my thinking.

Am waiting for them to explain the punishment being given out as per all the quotes from EU leaders if its not financial

Once they tell me I will let you know
Link me up and I'll do my best to interpret.

Well I'm not sure EU officials have used the language of 'punishing' Britain for a start, but they do nonetheless regard the EU project as one involving responsibilities as well as benefits. They have merely reminded Britain that it cannot enjoy the benefits whilst reneging on the responsibilities, just as they can't cherry pick the bits of the EU they want.

There's a very strange use of language used in this Brexit debate. Punishment, divorce settlements, war cabinets et al don't exactly project an image of a people at peace with themselves.

Have you changed your mind ? Neither have I, so what would be the point......
I see you have changed your mind over supporting Trump....if you can find just one poster on here who has swapped sides then I will agree with you.....

Think the key point that you miss here is that most of the electorate (a bit like the posters on grand old team as a whole) are nowhere near as engaged or interested (and therefor as entrenched) as the small percentage who 3 years post ref still post on this thread.

I agree that nobody still arguing about it on this thread 3 years later is going to have changed their minds. Although I think there have been a fair few different leave voters who have said they would rather stay in than leave with no-deal.

This leads me on to my second point though - this notion of ‘sides’. The binary referendum has removed all nuance from the argument - people think you have to be on one side or the other no matter how far away from the original 2016 argument things may have become, or how much other information has come to light. This entrenchment cannot be good for society as a whole.

The country has to come together and it never will if people continue to dig in. My hope is that the majority of the electorate have not.

A compromise has to be found.

If we owe anthing we should pay no problem with that, but how about things we have paid into like some of the space projects we are now excluded from despite putting in hundred of million pounds into , and used british expertese and man hours to procress to now be told sorry your not in the club so do one.
Does fairness only go one way?

Fairness does only go one way, and I expect our pro EU posters will defend that very position.....

They haven't ejected us, we decided to leave.
We continue to pay until we leave and for those commitments we have agreed.

But you can't seriously expect to benefit from parts of a 'club' you no longer pay your membership too.
They have ejected us from those space projects because of the way they are funded, the UK said it would continue to fund into tbe European space agency directly , not we are leaving goodbye it was deemed not good enough.
If i had legally left anything i would not expect to continue to pay for a service i no longer used or wanted,
fine pay off what you need to, but only what you owe and expect the other side to pay me for anthing i had paid for up front but no longer had access to from the date of leaving its a two way street.

yeah urm not really sure what you mean, I was asked a question re punitive costs and answered it, you seem to have gone off on some sort of tanget. If you were adding something constructive to the discussion please rephrase
May seemed to have accepted that figure, and her government wanted to pull out of virtually everything with Europe in the name without debate.
