Like many people on here, I’m of pure Irish descent. My family trace back to the time of kings of Ireland. I have one of the oldest surnames in Ireland and am proud of it. But I cannot abide Varadkar, a good old Irish name, causing trouble between Ireland and the U.K. for political reasons.

I want our two countries to be together, separate, but as one, just like Wales and Scotland. Not a political union, but a union of similar people, as we indeed are. We have our differences, we have our arguments, but at the end of the day we are more family than anyone else in Europe.....

And it looks like EU and Japan trade deal is taking effect as Nissan has cancelled it's X trail production in Sunderland.


Sad times for people of Sunderland but the car industry requires the custom Union, not project fear just reality's of modern production.

Very sad news, but was always likely to happen. Even if brexit had no tangible problems attached to it, it gives businesses an easy out free from blame to be able to restructure and cut costs. The fact it does cause problems just makes it cut and dry.

The worst part of it all is the fact that they told their staff that leaving would likely cause issues, but places like Sunderland still voted heavily to leave. Not to worry though I'm sure between Farage and Johnson they will move heaven and earth to make sure they and their families have food on the table when they lose their jobs. Well right after Forbes country ball.

Oh and of course Arron Banks weekend champagne bender at his mansion...and the four weeks away at a private villa in Tuscany.

No problem. The U.K. decided to leave. If you wish to leave the U.K. and rejoin the EU just vote for it. I will be your biggest supporter if you wish to do so. I believe in democracy. You can either vote to join the ROI or become an Independent country, just make your mind up. Which is it......

You seem to struggle with the mechanics of British democracy. The people of NI cannot hold a border poll. No party can unilaterally demand it, even if they have a majority of the ni vote. The Sec of state has complete autonomy on calling for a referendum on the border. Then the ROI must hold a referendum. Even if NI votes for a united ireland they may not be able to get it if the ROI votes no. There's no mechanism in the GFA agreement for an independent NI state as it's patently ludicrous.

Great isn't it. My original surname is Polish, much like our club captain's surname is Polish. I think Schopenhauer said it best:
