Very sad news, but was always likely to happen. Even if brexit had no tangible problems attached to it, it gives businesses an easy out free from blame to be able to restructure and cut costs. The fact it does cause problems just makes it cut and dry.

The worst part of it all is the fact that they told their staff that leaving would likely cause issues, but places like Sunderland still voted heavily to leave. Not to worry though I'm sure between Farage and Johnson they will move heaven and earth to make sure they and their families have food on the table when they lose their jobs. Well right after Forbes country ball.

And the Saatchi & Saatchi garden party.

And the Henley Royal Regatta.

Oh and of course Arron Banks weekend champagne bender at his mansion...and the four weeks away at a private villa in Tuscany.

...But they will squeeze it in to their busy schedules at some point I'm sure.
The EU were very interested in the assurances May and her government had given Nissan in the run up to our last election.
On EU Nissan relationship it might be seen as state aid issue, for UK Nissan relationship, the end of viable operations because of Brexit.
Of course other factors will play there part as they do in every decision. But whatever the overriding factor will be our relationship with the EU.

And this is what the ROI position is all about. It is similar to Spain and Gibraltar. It’s not about people or their wishes, it’s about territorial ambition. At least be honest.....

What a load of rubbish. "Territorial ambition" coming from an English person !!! Oh the irony.

The population of the island of Ireland can decide whether or not to unite politically by future referendums. Even SF accepts that. The Republic has no territorial ambition over the 6 beyond this and this is whar was voted on by all of the island in the GFA.

What is immediately threatening to all on the island is the economic imperative of avoiding disruption to trade across all 32 counties.

Separately, imposition of a hard border with customs and security posts is meat and drink for the tiny extreme fringe who would love an excuse to shoot or bomb.

Please try to be sensible when posting.

No mate. They removed their territorial claim, but Varadkar wants to make a name for himself.

Like many people on here, I’m of pure Irish descent. My family trace back to the time of kings of Ireland. I have one of the oldest surnames in Ireland and am proud of it. But I cannot abide Varadkar, a good old Irish name, causing trouble between Ireland and the U.K. for political reasons.

I want our two countries to be together, separate, but as one, just like Wales and Scotland. Not a political union, but a union of similar people, as we indeed are. We have our differences, we have our arguments, but at the end of the day we are more family than anyone else in Europe.....
Yikes....

Hmmm...(from PM's article at The Telegraph)
Nor do I have time for those who believe the verdict passed by the British people in 2016 should be overturned before it is even implemented. This week the leaders of the campaign for a second referendum had the chance to put their plan before the House of Commons – but they recognised there is no majority in this Parliament to hold another vote. Indeed, I believe there never will be.

When the House of Commons refused to support the withdrawal agreement, I listened – I pledged to think again, and go back to Brussels to secure a plan that Parliament can stand behind. Now it’s time for MPs demanding a second referendum to do the same – listen to the House and instead put your efforts behind securing a better Brexit for all of us.

Because the UK is leaving the EU. The clock is ticking, and negotiating the changes MPs want to see will not be easy. But if we stand together and speak with one voice, I believe we can find the right way forward.

I’m determined to deliver Brexit, and determined to deliver on time – on March 29, 2019. So let’s put aside our differences and focus on getting the deal over the line. Brexit offers great opportunities for our country. It’s up to all of us at Westminster to make it work.

My MP is DUP. She has ignored my several letters since becoming mp. Our constituency returned 70% remain. She is not representing nearly 31,000 of her constituents.

And if you think the DUP have no paramilitary links, you don't know your NI politics.

Of course the DUP have paramilitary links, all sides did....

Funny the way your prejudices come to the fore when you've "been the pub" isn't it....

What's next, any British person from an Asian background isn't as British as someone called Smith...???

And then when you're called out on it, in true racist fashion you accuse the accuser...

Pathetic.

I mentioned a man’s name. You mentioned his colour. Don’t put your own prejudices onto me....

Sunderland voted 2/3 to leave. Nissan announcement on x-trail is their answer.

Turkeys.....Christmas. such stupidity.
Sadly there will be good folk there, banging their heads against the wall surrounded by Pete and joeys in some weird version of Hitchcocks the birds, with the birds being replaced by old fossils repeating wto wto wto

Yes, but the narrative for them won't be that they made a mistake. Or even that they were mislead. Sunderland brexiteers will blame the EU for punishing Britain and Nissan for abandoning them.

Have either of you read the Chris Mullin diaries? He was one of the local MPs there for years, and his accounts of quite how poor and utterly abandoned that place was by Whitehall should go a long way to explaining why they decided to vote for Leave.

Hmmm, not sure about that.
