A strong manager would have punted Gerrard. He's slow in thought and deed. Real Madrid beat them twice - Real 12 points
Basle beat and draw Ludogrets at least - 7 -9 points
Liverpool - 3 points
ludogrets - 0/1 point

Then liverpool have to win their last 2 games and hope basle drew against ludogrets once.

If they draw vs basle they are out. they drop any points after real they are out.

ONLY ludogrets holding basle to a draw twice or beating them will give them hope. That or liverpool beating real.

Its simpler if you think Real will beat Liverpool and Basle home and away. Basle and Liverpool will beat Ludo home and away. So it comes down to a straight knock out between Basle and Liverpool. Im not sure whether its head to head or goal difference that would count if Liverpool beat Basle in that scenario.

Hodgson had the proverbial poisoned chalice there with the crowd ripping him to bits "because he wasn't Kenny"...and because he had him hanging round Anfield all the time openly touting for poor ole Woy's job to be their manager again. That's apart from the team displays. I may be wrong though but I always thought Gerrard put being onside with the Kopites ahead of, as skipper, openly supporting his manager. He did of course, at the same time, have the predictable fist pumping/camera kissing to a fine art playing up to them and as a budding 'national treasure'. If Madrid beat everyone, and lets assume (although a stretch) that everyone beats Ludogorets home and away. Liverpool would probably have the better goal difference considering Basle got spanked 4-1 by Madrid, meaning they could lose to Madrid twice, scrape past Ludogorets away and only have to spawn a single goal win at home. Champions league can be a joke, enter tournament lose a load of games, still end up winning it. Massive assumptions I know but i wouldn't count Liverpool out of weaseling out the group yet.
