God. Defense was shocking. Mainly Howard and Alcaraz. Coleman and baines too in fact I think it was only jags in defense. Attacking wise not too bad. Barkley played alright and was unlucky not to score twice.

Abysmal.
Baines, Coleman and Alcarez have never been great defenders. Good on the ball at times and can carry the ball but what we needed tonight where strong defenders as they got the p!ss taken out of them by smart technical players.

We were done by poor team selection and naive tactics.....alcaraz doesn't belong at the club, and Martinez continue faith in Barry is as bad as moyes with Neville...

We didn't need tonights game to be open, we didn't need to win it!, draw it any we're through.....instead we end up conceding 5!, how the hell does that happen?!....

We should have set back and frustrated them like we did to Liverpool at Goodison....tonight was just so ridiculous.....alcaraz??!!!!, what was Martinez thinking?!....

Have a gut feeling that some of the slow, tippy-tappy, going nowhere fast football we have played this season would have for once been in our favour for large spells of that match. Given us a chance to smother their momentum and settle the game a bit. One of the few times we needed it and it never appeared haha.

Don't care what anyone says .......... None of them put in a proper performance tonight. People saying he was ok or he was ok ............. basically means ... they were the best out of a bad bunch. Truly woeful. Cometh the hour cometh the men. Did they phucking Bollox . They should all hang their heads in shame.

Our team is 90% full of weak pussies earning more in a week than is healthy. I am seriously down on Everton at the moment...they are failures...and losers.

I think some people have been listening to Bobby Brown Shoes post match interviews too much. How are we supposed to take any positivs and credit after just being smashed 5-2 in Europe on national TV? Ok so we had a couple of chances but we conceded five goals!! Kiev were not even particularly brilliant bar Yarmelenko. Poor, poor setup, tactically naive to say the least and some players playing like they had their boots on the wrong feet.

Sorry no positives for me tonight. It was the one thing we as Evertonians had to look forward to this season and Martinez and the players have just pissed it up the wall.

I guess that ultimately we have to accept that, on the night, we met a team that was more than our match. I agree with you that defensively we were flawed, but as i said in my OP if Barkley's two shots that hit the woodwork had gone in it would have been a different story. So, just an inch or two between glory and ignominy. But personally, i never expected us to win this trophy, it was always a long shot; nevertheless, i have enjoyed living the dream. I think we have to be realistic about where we are and the need for two or three top class players to be drafted in during the summer. It was interesting that Mirallas wasn't even on the bench, i suspect that we can maybe read something into that. You talk about us being embarrassed on national t.v., but i think that anyone who has followed our campaign from the start would have been impressed with what we achieved. In the end the scoreline flattered Kiev, and most non-partisan viewers would probably not conclude that we had been disgraced. In the end, once again it comes down to money and Kenwright's failure to find a buyer despite having apparently been looking for about ten years now. Maybe he should have gone to Specsavers. We have a squad which, imo, is the best since the mid-eighties, but without a fresh injection of cash next season we're not going to be able to capitalise on it and the better players will either come to the end of their career or drift away.

Some of you on here i feel are being very harsh. Yes, we were a bit of a shambles in central defence, but overall i think the guys put in a very good shift against a team that was, on the night, better, and also had a lot of dodgy decisions called their way by the referee. Most of the guys were worthy of the shirt, imo, in that they played with passion and gave 100%; as i said in my post above, the scoreline flattered Kiev, and on a different night it could have been very different.

A boo fest looks likely for the rest of the season if performances are not up to scratch.

I think people will be too apathetic to boo.

If and when we gather the six or so points we need to be sure of survival the rest of the games will be pancake flat.

And the thing is, I can't see it being any different next season.
