Donald Trump for President Thread

Obviously I don't know much or anything about all this kind of thing so I have a few questions:

Yes he's mental, but will he be as bad as feared? Or more, will he be allowed to be as bad?
Will it be the usual promise a lot while campaigning and deliver not a lot as usual with these sorts of things?

I also have a random question about Ronald Reagan. He was an celeb turned president. Was it mad when he got in? Or did he have a better background than Trump? (I don't know what party Reagan was because i'm dumb).

Reagan was a politician who happened to be an actor beforehand. In actual terms, he was a standard Republican with actual policy ideas that he campaigned, particularly in terms of the economy - which was deemed 'Reaganomics'.

The comparison between him and Trump ends at the word "celebrity" really.

As for how bad Trump will be - he won't be a lame duck unfortunately. The Republicans have full control - it's like having an overwhelming majority in the House of Commons here, and no Lords to bother with. The Republicans will jump on board with Trump now due to how decisive his win was.

It will be bad as feared, especially in terms of his big promises which will now certainly be delivered in my view - the wall, for example.

if white american working class lives dont improve after a trump presidency where will they go next? my one hope is the myth of the right wing being on the side of the working class will end

Just a side thought here for all the fear mongering people who think trump will do x y and z.

The republicans didn't really back him did they? SO what is to say that they won't back him going forward either? So any crazy or unrealistic policies can be stopped before even becoming reality, starting with building a wall.......

Perhaps donald trump will just go down as the most ineffective president in history, the one who did nothing of any note during his 4 years.

The Republicans will need to be careful how they back Trump I would imagine, if they back deeply unpopular policies then it could easily lead to another 8 years of Democrat rule after 4 years.

I think my post says it all. Hillary is a disgrace and got what she and her gerrymandering mates deserved. I feel for Bernie.
What more do you need explaining? Not worthy of the honour of first female President as someone classy and ethical like Michelle Obama would be.
Please let me enjoy the day mate. I am not here to argue with those that will be having a collective head explosion in here.
Bernie would have won this election. The hubristic political elite got their ass handed to them today..

Hard to say; in any other system (like in ours, if he won a General Election of this kind) he would have a lot of power and a considerable mandate to do stuff.

In the US however he will probably get very little done - this victory, as massive as it is, did take place against a backdrop of near total disapproval from both political establishments and they retain control of Congress. They will probably be able to ride over him with impunity; aside from the wall (large parts of which are already in place) he won't be able to do anything.

Reagan was always a bellend.

before he won though he was regarded as being on the far-right of the Republicans, as opposed to people like Nixon or Ford. he was much more an extreme Republican than a "standard" one, but after he won the party caught up, thus making him relatively standard
