2025/26 David Moyes

And he hired his yes-men last summer.

But it's someone else and not Moyes doing this, they'll surely stay when he leaves, right?
"I have got the final say if we want to buy a player or if we don't want to buy a player. I get told by my superiors how much we have got to spend and what we have available".

@Eggs as you still seem unsure.

…’his entire career’. The game has changed lots since he went to Milwall on a wet night and spotted Tim Cahill, it’s much more global. I dare say he has a big say but I think the reality is they agree the types of players needed and the recruitment team go out and identify them. I’d doubt Moyes even heard of the likes of Barry until he was recommended to him.
You missed out the end of the process where Moyes has final say.

…sounds to me like Kinnear, Moyes and Cox look at the recommendations and come to an agreement. I don’t think it’s as despotic as you’d like to think, obviously cost and strategy are factors and in the end they’ll reach consensus.
No offence mate, but how have you reached that conclusion?!

Moyes had told you and the world that he has the final say, how can you ignore your ears and eyes?!

….going by what Cox says. No doubt, Moyes’ opinion is critical but he’ll be advised and recommendations made. It doesn’t matter if he gives a green light on a transfer and then Kinnear says the money isn’t available or Cox says it doesn’t meet strategic criteria.

Consensus, I’d be sure they look at recommendations and come to a consensus agreement. All the time, a key ingredient is Smith.

I haven't said it's despotic, in fact I've said on multiple occasions (even in discussion with you) that i think there are clear roles and responsibilities within the functions.
I hope it's smoother. That would be my priority in the rebuild.

I sensed a lot of tension between a Moyes, Kinnear and the recruitment team last summer and throughout the season.

I know Moyes has been keen to stress he has final say, but I do wonder if that's within parameters set by the club - i.e. The club give him a list of players and he chooses. Whatever it is, it needs sorting for this summer.

It should already be mapped out and the recruitment team should be well underway with negotiation.

I honestly think the recruitment model is that the club give Moyes a list of players for each position and asks him to rank them in preference.

It explains why we ended up with 3rd/4th choices in Barry (Delap, Woltemade, Abraham turned us down) Dibling (fofana, Doak turned us down), Right Back(?) (Tete Trippier, Walker), CM Oreilly, Hamer, Diarra).

Moyes was vocal about slow progress in the summer and Kinnear, in January, seemed to suggest that Moyes had rejected a lot of targets.

Strikes me that Moyes doesn't have full control but has final say from a pool of about 4 or 5.

Nothing suggests the manager and club are aligned on transfers.

I think this is bang on in terms of recruitment team and current targets. I also, as I have said in another thread, think Moyes has final say but only on the players the club select for him.

I hope it's a smoother process this year.

But crucially, as you seem to be incapable of recognising despite posters on here highlighting, media reports and Moyes own words - Moyes has final say.

….here’s how it works, Matey. It’s not like Moyes is given an envelope full of money and told to go out and spend it, there are other key players in this process so we’ll have to wait and see;

21.47 to 23.38, 30.00 to 30.59, 32.10 to 34.10

A few snippets, regarsi ghow are recruitment process works.

The takeaway its set up around Moyes

Don't they have a transfer committee? I don't for a minute believe Moyes has a 100% say in transfers.
That committee has a member on it who decides on the fees and wages we can pay, a head of scouting who will assimilate scouting reports and talk with the manager about what type of player they want and then come up with a shortlist for him. In our model the manager then decides which players he wants to pursue. Another person then contacts that players club and asks about availability, whether the player is interested in talking to the club etc. The player and his agent then meet with the manager, and the manager decides whether or not to make an offer.

Did you watch the Moyes team that got into the Champions League? I wouldn't describe it as free flowing attacking football.
I saw a lot of Howard Kendall coached games that weren't free flowing. The forum seemed pretty happy after the single goal wins away at Villa and Bournemouth I remember in Moyes first spell a mid week 2-0 away win at City that was pretty much the perfect set up of how to control a match from kick off to the final whistle. Would the internet generation warm to the George Graham style that scored few goals but generated points?
